Local Restaurateur Reignites the Fire with Opening of Firehouse Subs in Stockton, California

November 14, 2019 // Franchising.com // STOCKTON, Calif. - Firehouse Subs Franchisee Varinder Buttar is thrilled to open the doors to his restaurant in Stockton, California at 7860 West Lane, on Wednesday, November 13.

Firehouse Subs serves a variety of hot specialty subs, piled high with premium meats and cheeses that are sliced fresh daily in-restaurant and steamed together to bring out the ingredients’ natural flavors, served “Fully Involved®” with fresh produce and condiments. In addition to its signature subs, the restaurant offers a variety of catering options from sandwich and dessert platters to salads and snacks to fuel any occasion.

This is the first Firehouse Subs restaurant for Buttar, whose background as a professional athlete and son of a police officer helped shape his future as an entrepreneur. Growing up in India, Buttar’s father also coached sports, which led to Buttar’s five-year career as a professional athlete in the 100-meter. After retiring and moving to California, his first job was with another sandwich chain. But when it came time to open his own franchise, his father’s 35-year career as a police officer and Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation drew Buttar to the brand.

“I am so excited to open my doors to the Stockton community,” Buttar said. “I love our food and that we were founded by firefighters, but more than anything I love what we do through the Foundation and getting local first responders the equipment they need. I can’t wait to serve our guests and first responders through both good food and heartfelt service.”

Buttar’s wife Rasvin is also passionate about serving the community. After more than 10 years as a registered nurse and three years as a nurse practitioner, her commitment to the community and public safety helped lead the family’s decision to embark on this next chapter.

Varinder and Rasvin are dedicated to sharing the brand’s commitment to giving back through Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation, which has granted more than $1.1 million in California. A portion of every sale at any Firehouse Subs in the U.S. benefits the Foundation, allowing the Foundation to achieve its mission of providing lifesaving equipment, funding and education to first responders and public safety organizations across the country.

The Stockton Firehouse Subs restaurant is open from 10:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. seven days a week. The newly remodeled restaurant will feature a drive-thru and offer third-party delivery and in-house catering services to accommodate occasions of all sizes, from office meetings to family gatherings.

Founded by former firefighting brothers Chris Sorensen and Robin Sorensen, the restaurant décor reflects the founding family’s decades of fire and police service with gear and photos donated by local fire departments. The restaurant boasts a custom, hand-painted mural by Chief Mural Artist Joe Puskas, featuring the Stockton Fallen Firefighters Memorial. Since the opening of the first Firehouse Subs in 1994, Puskas and his team have painted more than 1,180 murals from his studio at Firehouse Subs Headquarters in Jacksonville, Fla.

In 2005, the Firehouse Subs founders established the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation with the mission of providing funding, lifesaving equipment and educational opportunities to first responders and public safety organizations. The 501(c)(3) Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation has granted more than $46 million to hometown heroes in 49 states, Puerto Rico and Canada. Each restaurant recycles five-gallon pickle buckets, available to guests for a $3 donation to the Foundation. Donation canisters on register counters explain the nonprofit’s mission and collect spare change, while the Round Up Program allows guests to “round up” their bill to the nearest dollar. All funds raised benefit the Foundation.
