theCoderSchool Opens First Tampa Location

Silicon Valley-based coding school opening second Florida location

June 09, 2020 // Franchising.com // Palo Alto, Calif. - theCoderSchool - whose motto is “Learn to code. Change the world.” - is continuing its central Florida takeover. The concept - which aims to show the next generation of kids how inspiring and exciting technology can be - is set to open a new school in Tampa this month.

Located at 8632 Hunters Village Rd., the new school will be owned and operated by Lesly and Michael Olavarria and is the couple’s first of three locations. With the initial opening date pushed back due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Olavarria’s are eagerly awaiting their CoderSchool’s grand opening, taking place June 13th with the start of in-person classes and summer camps following two days later.

The couple will be hosting a grand opening event, June 13th from 1-3 PM with free code challenges, games for kids, tours of the school, and snacks as well as a raffle with prizes. To ensure the safety of attendees, all visitors will have their temperature checked at check-in and will be required to wear a mask. Sanitation stations will also be set up throughout the area with dedicated staff disinfecting commonly used surfaces.

No strangers to the world of code, both Lesly and Michael saw the value in learning the skill and ultimately utilized their knowledge of code to elevate their professional careers in IT.

“We’ve experienced how powerful learning a programming language can be as it elevated us both in our careers,” Lesly said. “The initial desire to teach young children to code came when our youngest kids began to learn the basics of coding in school at age six. When we saw the potential coding had on a developing mind and learned more about theCoderSchool and its mission, we immediately jumped at the franchise opportunity.”

With summer quickly approaching, the couple is drastically reducing the price of their summer camps to help parents in their community during the pandemic.

“Giving the community access to this vital educational resource is our mission,” said Lesly. “We’ve seen first-hand the positive impact and the growing importance of early coding education, which is why we decided to operate our camps at a discounted price, in an effort to allow more students to dive into the world of code.”

Founded by Hansel Lynn and incubated with the help of his best friend, Wayne Teng, theCoderSchool was built with the desire to provide children aged 7 to 18 years with a welcoming environment to develop computer programming skills. theCoderSchool uses a variety of platforms to teach various coding languages, such as HTML, CSS, Python, Javascript and more. Every Code Coaching lesson is customized with the help of trained Code Coaches® who use a 2-on-1 approach to teaching.

“We are thrilled to add Lesly and Michael to our community of coders,” added Lynn. “After hearing their story we instantly knew their passion for both code education and their community would create a great learning environment for their school and we are confident the Tampa community will agree!”
