Innovative Snack Franchise Puts “Twist” on Snacking in San Diego

May 10, 2021 // Franchising.com // SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Wetzel’s Pretzels (Wetzel’s), has officially opened a new bakery in San Diego, conveniently located at Navy Medical Center at 34800 Bob Wilson Dr., Building 26. While not open to the general public, the newest location is part of Wetzel’s initiative to enter flexible formats and non-traditional venues.

As the 12th Wetzel’s Pretzels location in San Diego, franchise owner Eyal Reich will tap into a decade of experience as a business owner to continue to grow the brand and provide the community with a versatile, year-round delicious product. This location is the first of several planned for the year.

“It’s been a whirlwind two years since I’ve opened my first Wetzel’s Pretzels location,” said Reich, who owns four additional Wetzel’s Pretzels locations in addition to his new location at the Navy Medical Center in the Southern California area. “Wetzel’s Pretzels is the perfect versatile business opportunity - where else can you throw in water, dough and cheese to create a variety of delicious products?”

The new Wetzel’s location will is the fifth location for Reich. Maintaining Wetzel’s commitment to “hand held happiness,” the new location will hand roll, hand craft and fresh squeeze the finest ingredients into innovative deliciousness so those in the Navy Medical Center can grab a bite of happiness during their visits.

Wetzel’s continues to build on momentum with the new location in 2021. Wetzel’s is coming into Q2 strong and has more to come in the latter half of the year. Wetzel’s has successfully opened locations in malls, outlet centers, food trucks, stadiums, boardwalks, convenience stores, Walmart and transit destinations. After nearly three decades, Wetzel’s maintains its small company feel and creates personal connections with all members of the Wetzel’s franchise family.

Building on its reputation as the fun-loving brand putting a tasty twist on snacking, Wetzel’s offers a scrumptious blend of pretzel products. Fans of the brand can choose between their classic favorites like Wetzel’s Cin-a-Bitz or the twisted takes on pretzel perfection like the Wetzel Dog before washing it down with a fresh ice-cold lemonade at the Navy Medical Center. Wetzel’s keeps it simple and salty with its menu and operations.

At the onset of the pandemic, Wetzel’s immediately rolled out safety measures at all locations. Fans of Wetzel’s in the Navy Medical Center can freely dip, bite and sip their favorite Wetzel’s options knowing that the team members will use gloves or tongs when handling food, provide condiments from behind the counter and encourage touchless transactions. Additionally, all team members wear masks, separation screens have been installed and social distancing is encouraged among customers and team members alike when necessary. The newest location in the Wetzel’s world will conduct daily wellness checks and sanitation sweeps every hour and evening to keep the bakeries disinfected. Each change was made with the safety of guests and employees in mind to uphold the brand’s “We Bake Safe” promise.
