Hawaiian-Style Poké Restaurant Supports Member of its “Ohana” by Donating T-Shirt Profits to Ovarian Cancer Research Alliance

September 10, 2021 // Franchising.com // Orlando, Fla. - Island Fin Poké - a fast casual restaurant famous for its Hawaiian style build-your-own poké bowls - will be selling T-shirts throughout September 2021 to support Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month and help raise money for a close friend and dear customer, Mai Linh Nguyen Achong, in her fight against ovarian cancer. The T-shirts will cost $15 and all proceeds will be donated to the Ovarian Cancer Research Alliance in Mai’s name to continue its efforts in funding vital research, offering survivor support resources and advocating for everyone touched by ovarian cancer worldwide.

Mai and her family’s strong relationship with the Island Fin Poké team developed throughout her frequent visits to the brand’s restaurants over the years. Island Fin Poké has since welcomed Mai into the brand’s Ohana and offered its support in her ongoing battle with ovarian cancer. Mai’s story, perseverance and incredible strength have now inspired CEO and Co-Founder of Island Fin Poké, Mark Setterington, to become personally invested in ovarian cancer research and finding a cure.

“Mai and her family have been so supportive of us as a brand and we now see it as our turn to be there for her during this difficult time,” said Setterington. “When a member of our Ohana is in need, we work to commit everything in our power to help them overcome their personal challenges. Mai was first diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2008. After five years in remission, the cancer returned. Before she was able to have surgery, Mai’s tumor ruptured and the cancer cells spread throughout her abdomen. Since being diagnosed, Mai has endured multiple surgeries and chemotherapy treatments and is expected to need more as the cancer metastasizes to her other organs. While she currently explores additional treatment options, Mai is supported by her friends and family in finding new ways to contribute to the Ovarian Cancer Research Alliance.

“As I continue my fight against ovarian cancer, I am so grateful to have such caring and supportive relationships in my life with friends like the Island Fin Poké team,” said Mai. “My family and I cherish these relationships and it means the world to me that they are helping raise funds and awareness for a cause that affects me and so many others.”
