Homewatch CareGivers Takes the Lead in Quality Controls, Caregiver Screening

  • Hires Affordable Searches, National Leader in Caregiver Background Checks
  • Makes Life-Cycle In-Home Care Management Superior, Creates New National Position
  • New Quality Assurance Field Manager is Former Award-Winning Texas Franchise Owner

July 09, 2009 // Franchising.com // GREENWOOD VILLAGE, CO — At a time when nursing home inspections reveal poor quality control measures and negligent hiring lawsuits and elder abuse reports are on the rise, in-home care industry leader Homewatch CareGivers, after careful review of 10 national background screening companies, selected Affordable Searches as its new national caregiver background check partner. Affordable Searches conducts multi-jurisdictional background searches across the U.S., including the 50-state sexual offender database, the federal criminal database (PACER) and motor vehicle databases for all caregivers providing client transportation.

Noting the significance of this new partnership, President Leann Reynolds said, "These valuable searches are conducted on not only all new applicants but on all caregiver and employee hires system-wide each year. All names connected with Social Security numbers are checked along with county criminal searches. These real time county searches are done manually, line item by line item, and include all counties the person has lived in for the past seven to 10 years. We're confident our security measures are the highest industry standard and we believe, just as the auditor for the Texas Department of Disability and Aging services said, that Affordable Searches provides the most complete background screening for home health agencies."

With over 30 years of experience, owner Paul Marcus, a licensed private investigator, has worked with Homewatch CareGivers since 2004. Affordable Searches is a member of the National Association of Background Screeners (NAPBS), a national organization promoting ethics and best practices for the background screening industry, and was one of 35 background screening companies from across the U.S. selected to participate in a best practices survey by the NAPBS (http://www.napbs.com). Affordable Searches is also a member of the National Association of Security Agencies (NASA) and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.

More In-Depth Training for Each Homewatch CareGivers Office for In-Home Inspections Additionally, Homewatch CareGivers has named Beverly Brinson, MSW and Certified Senior Advisor, as its new National Quality Assurance Field Manager to establish and maintain quality operational standards for all domestic and international operations and to direct and conduct all daily in-field training and in-field assessments. Quality home inspection is security-based, Reynolds noted. "A qualified nurse or social worker comes into a client's home either on a drop-in inspection on the caregiver and client or to visit the client independently to determine if all care protocols are being followed precisely. These random inspections are necessary in our industry and we welcome them. Furthermore, in our own system, we have always maintained a leadership position in quality assurance. Our owners conduct random in-home inspections at every, and any, hour of the day or night to ensure quality control. We believe these visits increase overall caregiver quality and, most importantly, client safety and we know registries do not perform this kind of vital in-home supervision."

"We are determined every day to exceed the goals we've established in our mission-vision-values proposition and a former owner and highly-trained professional of Bev's caliber will ensure we both increase and exceed the trust factor that every adult child in America places in us when they hire Homewatch CareGivers to provide in-home care for their aging parent," Reynolds said.

Previously, Brinson owned the award-winning Homewatch CareGivers of The Woodlands, TX for five years, has served on the Advisory Board for Homewatch CareGivers and has served as an expert witness for the State of Texas court system on family law issues.

She earned her Bachelor of Business Administration degree from the University of Texas at Austin and her Master of Social Work degree from the University of Houston. Prior to Homewatch CareGivers, she worked primarily with clients and families experiencing trauma and was often subpoenaed to present court testimony as an expert witness throughout Texas.
