Mr. Handyman Franchise to Donate Repair Services Nationwide on Sept. 10

September 02, 2009 // Franchising.com // ANN ARBOR, MI - Mr. Handyman technicians will perform hundreds of repair and maintenance jobs system-wide on Sept. 10, without collecting a single penny in labor costs.

As part of President Obama's request to renew America through volunteerism, Mr. Handyman, a full-service home repair and maintenance franchise and the No. 1 employer of handymen nationwide, will install handicap ramps at hospitals in Seattle, paint retirement homes in Orlando and everything in between during their National Day of Service on Sept. 10.

More than 300 U.S. and Canadian locations will rally around the cause and donate their skilled technicians' time to a local charity of choice. According to company executives at the franchise system's national headquarters, the local Mr. Handyman franchise owners have pledged to donate at least 800 hours of work to homeless shelters, hospitals, senior care centers, schools and churches, as well as non-profits and other community service organizations.

"Mr. Handyman is an international brand, made up of entrepreneurs who live and work in local communities," said Todd Recknagel, president and chief executive officer of Mr. Handyman, International. "We hope to come together as a group and make a large-scale impact on a single day. With the passing of Senator Ted Kennedy this day becomes even more significant since the National Day of Service and Remembrance was a part of the Edward M. Kennedy Serve America Act."

As an organization, Mr. Handyman's culture has always encouraged their franchise owners to give back to their communities. In fact, the idea to collectively participate in the National Day of Service came from Mr. Handyman franchise owner Ted Tenenbaum of Beverly Hills, Calif.

"I'm always impressed by the strength, the character, and the positive nature of the Mr. Handyman family. I am proud to be a member of this community," said Tenenbaum. "I'll be even more so this September, when we show the country what we're capable of, a day when we give something of great value to those who need us most."
