The SUBWAY® Chain Celebrates The Opening Of Its 1,00th SUBWAY® Restaurant In The UK and Ireland

Regional Development Continues at an Impressive Pace to Surpass Growth Goals

August 23, 2007 // Franchising.com // (Milford CT) -- Congratulations to the customers, franchisees and field staff who have helped the SUBWAY® chain notch another growth milestone, by opening 1,000 SUBWAY® restaurants throughout the United Kingdom and Ireland.

Three SUBWAY® locations opened their doors to welcome new business on July 27, 2007. The three local franchisees are Simon Fawkes in Southend-on-Sea, England, Damian McColgan with his restaurant in Donegal Town, Ireland (right), and Phillip Hartley & Mark France, who welcomed hungry guests in Stalybridge, England.

"The level of growth we have experienced in the UK and Ireland is a fantastic achievement," commented Kevin Graham, Regional Director for the SUBWAY® submarine sandwich chain. "It reflects our franchisees' entrepreneurial spirit, together with the power of the SUBWAY brand. Following the 1986 opening of the first store in England, the SUBWAY® chain has expanded aggressively throughout the region. In the last two years, the number of SUBWAY® locations has doubled, and the territory is currently opening an average of six stores per week - and development shows no signs of slowing down. The number of regional SUBWAY® restaurants is expected to surpass the number of McDonald's® outlets by mid-2008.
