Entrepreneur magazine ranks Mathnasium the 7th Top New Franchise for 2008; Mathnasium places in the top 200 overall.

December 18, 2007 // Franchising.com // LOS ANGELES, CA - In its 2008 ranking of franchise businesses, Entrepreneur magazine ranked Mathnasium 7th out of 50 in the category of Top New Franchises.

Mathnasium placed for the first time in the Top 200 of all franchises. It ranked 197 in the Franchise 500 list, up from 239 last year. This was Mathnasium's third consecutive Entrepreneur ranking since making it onto the charts two years ago, in its second year of franchising.

The Entrepreneur Magazine Franchise 500 rankings are based on financial strength and stability, growth rate, and size of the system. They also take into account the number of years in business, length of time franchising, startup costs, and percentage of terminations.

"We expect 2008 to be a pivotal year for us," said Peter Markovitz, Mathnasium's founder and president. "Our progress in the Entrepreneur rankings continues to validate our franchise concept," he added. "But our business is – and will continue to be – defined by the high value we deliver to customers and the solid businesses our franchisees operate."

Markovitz, a learning center and franchise industry pioneer, founded Mathnasium in 2002 to address the need for high-value, high-quality supplemental math instruction. He built an all-star team of education and business professionals that has propelled the business toward the top of the list of the country's best franchises, after only four years of franchising.

But Markovitz credits Mathnasium's success to the diverse and talented group of franchisees that the business has attracted in the United States and around the world.

Mathnasium Learning Centers focus on teaching children math in a way that makes sense to them, said Larry Martinek, Mathnasium's chief instructional officer. "It might seem logical," he said, "but few know how to do that." Martinek, architect of the Mathnasium Method, has been perfecting his instructional techniques for 33 years, during which he has worked as a classroom teacher and educational consultant.

The Mathnasium Method includes a curriculum of more than 7,000 pages of worksheets, oral explanations, visual and tactile examples, and instructional tools. Franchisees, Center Directors and Instructors receive comprehensive training in the Mathnasium Method. They also get special materials and instructions on how to personalize the curriculum for each child.
