The Dog Stop® Continues To Put Down Pawprints In Louisiana

All-inclusive dog care facility will open second facility in Metairie

March 01, 2019 // Franchising.com // PITTSBURGH, Pa. - The professional pet care industry is worth $70 billion and the ways that pet owners are caring for their furry family members is rapidly changing, and dog owners are always looking for a way to keep their furry friends happy and healthy. With that being said, The Dog Stop® - an award-winning, all-inclusive dog care facility offering daycare, boarding, grooming, obedience training, in-home services, dog walking, and retail store - is preparing for the opening of its second Louisiana location set to open in Metairie.

Located at 3201 Transcontinental, the new dog care facility will be owned and operated by the Krake family. This family-owned business will be led by Abby Krake, who will serve as the store's General Manager; followed by her mother, Lisa, who will be responsible for finances; her father, Allen, who will be the head of operations; and lastly her sister, Amy Vanderhooft, who is in charge of marketing. The Krakes plan for their facility to open during in spring 2019.

"We are excited to bring The Dog Stop to Metairie, and operate a business that will not only become deeply rooted into the community but also be the go-to trusted care facility for dogs," expressed Abby. "The Dog Stop is a revolutionary one-stop-shop business that caters to everyone's four-legged family members, and this is something that Metairie has been in need of."

Entrepreneurship is truly a family trait. Lisa's entrepreneurial background began as a cashier for Popeyes, where she worked her way up to the corporate level, learning many managerial and franchisee best practices along the way. Allen's journey began when he co-founded Philly's Cheesesteak, and then went on to grow the business to four new locations. The couple also previously owned four Smoothie King franchises throughout the New Orleans metro area. Now, the Krake family currently owns and operates Supreme Automotive Group, a collection of five dealerships across southeast Louisiana. Abby's passion for animals, and experience previously working for a local veterinary clinic ultimately guided the family to their next business venture.

"The Dog Stop understands that dogs are more than just pets - they're members of your family, and I think that's what makes them as successful as they are," said Lisa. "This is a cutting edge company that knows what dogs and their owners need. You have a retail store, groomer, day care, boarding, and training facility combined in one - what more can you ask for?"

The Dog Stop's clean, safe, 100% climate controlled facilities feature premium boarding accommodations, social and interactive daycare experiences, spa-like grooming retreats, in-home services, and a retail store featuring premium dog food, treats, toys and accessories. Other features include separate and secure play areas for dogs of all sizes and energy levels, including outdoor space with special anti-microbial?turf "grass."

Unlike many of its competitors, The Dog Stop charges a flat standard fee, no matter the breed or size of the dogs. However, for those owners who prefer a more tailored experience for their dogs, the "Dog Stop Delights" program offers extra activities such as cuddle time, one-on-one play, leash walks, training sessions and puzzle time.

The Pittsburgh-based franchise plans to open as many as 10 total locations throughout the greater area over the next several years. Today, there are 15 locations open and operating in six states, with more than 40 additional stores in various stages of development across the country.

"Our facilities exist to promote healthy and happy dogs through socialization, physical and mental exercise and a holistic retail approach," said Chris Kane, co-founder and CFO. "We're excited to have the Krake family join The Dog Stop® family. They're passionate about the brand and have a successful business record. We're excited to see their facility flourish, and for the brand to become a part of the Metairie community," said Jesse Coslov, co-founder and CEO.
