Wienerschnitzel Opens The First Of Multiple Restaurants In Houston

World’s Largest Hot Dog Chain debuted its first Houston store May 26 in New Caney in east Montgomery County

A second Wienerschnitzel will open in Baytown by year’s end; others are planned as part of major Houston expansion

May 29, 2019 // Franchising.com // NEW CANEY, Texas - Wienerschnitzel has opened the first of what will be multiple franchised restaurants in the Houston metroplex as part of a long-term expansion into Texas’ largest city.

The World’s Largest Hot Dog Franchise debuted Houston’s first Wienerschnitzel May 26 in New Caney in east Montgomery County, 30 miles northeast of downtown Houston. The restaurant at 20130 U.S. Highway 59 / Interstate 69, near FM 1485, is now serving its iconic hot dog-focused menu via inside dining and drive-thru service.

The New Caney Wienerschnitzel will be followed by a second restaurant in Baytown, east of downtown Houston, by the end of the year. Buns and Dogs, LLC, a local ownership group, is responsible for both restaurants.

Other Wienerschnitzel restaurants will be announced later this year for Houston, which has been identified as an ideal expansion market for the company according to Ted Milburn, Wienerschnitzel director of U.S. franchise development.

“Wienerschnitzel has been part of the Texas family dining scene since we sold our first hot dog in Amarillo in 1968 – so it’s only fitting that we give Houstonians the chance to experience our Chili Cheese Dogs, Chili Cheese Fries and Tastee-Freez frozen desserts for themselves,” said Milburn. “Thanks to local investors like Zaheed Umatiya and the Buns & Dogs team, local residents will be seeing a lot more of Wienerschnitzel in the months and years to come.”

“As a Houston resident, I consider it an honor to be able to open the first two Wienerschnitzel restaurants in Houston – and to bring Wienerschnitzel’s craveable menu of hot dogs, corn dogs and world-famous chili to a part of Texas that takes its food seriously,” said Zaheed. “I can personally vouch that many fellow Houstonians are seriously excited about our new openings.”

Buns and Dogs, LLC will announce a summer or fall grand opening celebration in New Caney, as well as details of the Baytown restaurant, at a later date.

Among Wienerschnitzel’s 325 locally owned restaurants throughout the Southwest are 43 in Texas, mostly concentrated in Amarillo, Dallas-Fort Worth, Corpus Christi, El Paso and Lubbock.
