With a Passion for Education Local Research Scientist Makes a Career Change to Bring Kumon to the San Leandro Community

Kumon Math and Reading Center of San Leandro - Floresta Now Taking Enrollments
Emily Diao

June 05, 2019 // Franchising.com // SAN LEANDRO, Calif. - Emily Diao first tapped into her natural gift of teaching through a part-time opportunity as an assistant teacher for middle school math while she was a Ph.D. candidate in Biology. Although it was a part-time role and not on her path to becoming a research scientist, Diao’s experience with improving a student’s academic performance made such a lasting impression that would later change the course of her professional career. She went on to complete her Ph.D. and spent much of her career as a research scientist, but after time wanted a career change. She recalled the impact that she made as a part-time teacher and decided to look into the Kumon franchise opportunity. Today, Diao is the proud owner of Kumon Math and Reading Center of San Leandro – Floresta.

“Children enrolled in Kumon are given the opportunity to be guided in becoming self-learners,” said Diao, owner and Instructor of Kumon Math and Reading Center of San Leandro – Floresta. “By building a strong foundation at an early age, students not only improve their academic performance, but also patience, conscientiousness and sheer tenacity – all key components of a successful future.”

The Kumon Method empowers preschool to high school aged children to become self-learners and is designed to advance math and reading skills while fostering a love for learning. It goes beyond traditional tutoring by actively developing critical thinking skills as children progress independently through a carefully crafted curriculum.

“I want my center to be a space for students to discover a passion for learning, and to unlock their full potential,” said Diao. “I hope to be a critical player in each of my students’ academic journeys and to prepare them for a successful future.”

Kumon sparks critical thinking, establishes a pattern of success and builds confidence that can lead to accelerated learning throughout life. Learn more about the Kumon Method today.
