However, that's precisely what happened to Jason Clarke who started working with MEDIchair Abbotsford in 2002 as a service technician. Later he would be promoted to the position of general manager and director. Today, he owns MEDIchair Abbotsford.
"It seems like just like yesterday that I started working at MEDIchair Abbotsford," explains Clarke who has a decade of experience in the health care field. "The previous owners had a lot of faith in me that allowed me to evolve and try new things to grow the business."
Clarke explains that his 2000 square foot store is designed to provide a broad range of retail products. "We are striving to provide our customers with a one-stop shopping experience in a relaxed, home-like environment that allows them to consult with qualified product experts and 'test drive' products in every category from scooters and electric wheelchairs to stair lifts and walkers."
"Abbotsford is among the top five largest municipalities in BC, and like many communities in BC, the seniors' population is growing rapidly," says Clarke. "We just added another sales person to bring our staff to four people including a technical installation and repair specialist. We may add others when the city's new Cancer Hospital opens this fall. We are trying to stay ahead of the city's growth curve."
Clarke is also well aware that while the home medical equipment business is strong, it is also competitive. "You have to be constantly looking outside the box for ways to improve customer service. Building and maintaining one-to-one customer relationships is key to our long-term success."
