July 16, 2008 // Franchising.com // More than 530 Big O Tires stores will hold an awareness and donations campaign in support of Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF) for Pediatric Cancer during July, including the local store in Wickenburg.
This is the third year Big O Tires stores and the corporate offices have teamed up with ALSF to inform their customers of the work done by the organization and to provide opportunities for customers to contribute to the battle against childhood cancer.
This year also marks the third year that the Big O Tires stores and the corporate office are contributing $50,000 to the foundation, which brings total company donations to $150,000. During the past two years of the campaign, over $28,000 has also been donated by customers visiting Big O Tires locations. Customers who donate will receive a personalized paper lemon to post at the stores to show their support.
Big O Tires' sister companies: Tire Kingdom, Merchants and NTB, along with their more than 670 retail stores in 25 states, ran a similar campaign for the foundation during June. Thus, the tire companies' involvement in this worthwhile charity comes to more than 1200 store locations in 45 states.
Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF) emerged from the front yard lemonade stand of cancer patient Alexandra "Alex" Scott (1996-2004). At the age of 4, Alex announced that she wanted to hold a lemonade stand to raise money to help find a cure for all children with cancer. Since Alex held that first stand, the foundation bearing her name has evolved into a national fundraising movement, complete with thousands of volunteers across the country carrying on her legacy of hope. To date, Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation, a registered 501(c)3 charity, has raised more than $20 million towards fulfilling Alex's dream of finding a cure, funding over 80 research projects nationally.
