United Home Services began in Melbourne as a family owned cleaning business over ten years ago. In these early years United was run with direct employees and contractors. This provided an intimate knowledge of the services being offered before franchising was commenced in 1995. While these years were exhausting they focused the business on the divisions that provided the greatest franchising potential. The divisions chosen: Cleaning, Gardening and Ironing all have a number of things in common. Firstly there is a high customer demand for them. Secondly they involve relatively simple skill that can be easily taught and finally they all involve repeat visits to the same customers.
