Franchise History

LifeSpring In-Home Care Network was established as a result of the flourishing of its affiliate, Lifecare Oklahoma, and the desire of its principals to grow and expand its services to other regions in the nation. The story of LifeSpring starts with the story of Lifecare Oklahoma. Lifecare Oklahoma serves central and east central Oklahoma and is a family of home care agencies, providing four service types: home health care, hospice care, ADvantage Waiver Program case management and private pay care. Founder Karen Vahlberg, RN, BSN, graduated from the University of Oklahoma in 1981 and has worked in the home care arena as a field nurse, director, consultant, and administrator for over twenty years. In 2003, Karen established Lifecare Oklahoma Personal Services, providing non-medical home care; that same year, along with business partner Katie Moody, started Lifecare Oklahoma, Inc., providing medical home health care. Katie and Karen shared a belief in provision of service with integrity, including clinical excellence, ethical corporate values, and superior customer service. Lifecare Oklahoma provides skilled nursing, physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, medical social work and personal care services covered by Medicare or private insurance, as well as private pay services, usually provided in shifts by certified home health aides or companions. In 2006, Lifecare Oklahoma added hospice services, working with terminally ill patients and their families to ease symptoms, provide comfort, and prepare for transition from this life. Working in the health care field offers no immunity to illness, and in late 2005, Katie Moody was diagnosed with cancer. Katie bravely endured treatments, remissions, and relapses with her signature grace and humor. She passed from this life on October 15, 2009, surrounded by family and friends and under the care of the hospice she founded. Though absent in body, her spirit still permeates the culture and vision of Lifecare Oklahoma. The Katie Moody Heart of Lifecare Foundation was then established as a way to honor and continue the life's work of their partner, colleague and friend. Funds received are used to support care for seriously and terminally ill people, to help with last wishes, and to assist their families with limited financial means. Lifecare Oklahoma plans to continue to look for ways to offer superior clinical care and customer service to the communities in which they serve, and to expand their service offerings and geographic footprint to meet the needs of an aging society, whose members' greatest desire is to remain living at home throughout their lifetime.
