Opening of Woody's Bar-B-Q® of Cocoa Will Honor a Lasting Family Tradition

Gumieny Family to Launch its Third Venture in Brevard County Thanks to New Relationship with Florida-Based Southern Barbecue Chain; Restaurant Set to Open November 2014

October 29, 2014 // Franchising.com // Jacksonville, Florida - In mid-to-late November 2014, the much-anticipated opening of Woody's Bar-B-Q of Cocoa will signify the next exciting phase in a valued family tradition for the Gumieny Family. Fueled by a combined love of great Barbecue and entrepreneurial spirit, the leadership team – which includes patriarch Fred Sr., matriarch Terry, son Fred Jr. and daughter-in-law Samantha Gumieny – is excited to debut the family's third business venture in Brevard County.

"My father launched his first business – D&E Pump Sales and Service – here in 1980, followed by D&E Hardware in 2006," explained Fred Gumieny, Jr. "Woody's Bar-B-Q of Cocoa will represent our family's third business in Brevard County. Although the Space Coast lost a lot of jobs in recent years due to the closure of the space shuttle program, a great deal of exciting and promising new growth is coming our way. We're glad to be a part of it, and proud to employ more than 100 people in the Space Coast area between all three companies."

Located at 4885 North US Highway 1 in the space formerly occupied by Corky Bells Seafood Restaurant, the new Woody's Bar-B-Q of Cocoa will reflect the Florida-based barbecue chain's most updated and modern model. In addition to a slew of contemporary décor details that include new booths, tables and lighting, the family-friendly restaurant will also feature a drive-thru, full liquor bar, TV screens with NFL ticket viewing and a friendly staff of seasoned industry veterans. Woody's Bar-B-Q of Cocoa seeks to become THE go-to place for families, bar-b-q buffs, and sports fans in the surrounding area. In addition to providing a warm and welcoming atmosphere, great food at a great price is at the heart of what Woody's Bar-B-Q is all about.

While members of the Gumieny family have been long-time fans of Woody's Bar-B-Q, new bride Samantha is a rookie to the popular Southern fare. Having hailed from Wisconsin, she quickly became a devotee of Woody's slow-smoked meats and comfort food sides when she moved here this past year.

"People sometimes ask 'Why barbeque?' but Fred and Freddy have always loved Woody's Bar-B-Q, and had their hearts set on opening a Woody's of their own one day," explains Samantha. "We also appreciate the fact that Woody's was started more than 30 years ago as a family venture by Woody Mills and Yolanda Mills-Mawman, and now we're carrying on that tradition within our own family."

Beyond their own love of Woody's Bar-B-Q, the Gumieny Family believes their new restaurant will prove a terrific fit for Cocoa. Having lived in the area for 34 years, the Gumienys are extremely tapped into the community. They have shown a commitment to regularly sponsoring local athletic associations and staying involved with area schools and churches through D&E Hardware and D&E Pump Sales & Services – something the family looks forward to continuing at Woody's Bar-B-Q of Cocoa. Mother Terry is also a teacher in the area at a local Catholic School – St. Teresa's in Titusville.

"I am very proud of the fact that my mom and dad moved here more than three decades ago with nothing, and that through hard work and dedication, they have built two successful businesses in Brevard County," says Fred Jr. "I'm honored to partner with them on this new venture as we bring something exciting and different to the people of this community."
