Bruster’s Real Ice Cream Announces Commitments for 15 New Shops

Premium frozen treat chain entering new markets amid record-setting sales.

March 04, 2015 // Franchising.com // PITTSBURGH – Bruster’s Real Ice Cream, coming off a year in which 45 shops set sales records, has already in 2015 signed development agreements for 15 new locations, with at least 12 scheduled to open this year. “This is just the beginning of our new growth plan for 2015,” said CEO Jim Sahene. “We are just getting started, with many more new locations in the pipeline,” he commented. The premium frozen treat chain, which enjoys a cult-like following, is undergoing a dramatic turnaround, driven by a new four-seasons prototype, revamped business model, innovative marketing and an aggressive franchise sales program. “It’s been less than two years since we announced a five-point strategy to re-ignite growth, and the response from existing and potential franchisees has been remarkable,” Sahene added.

Eight new treat shops are scheduled to open this spring in these markets:

  • Lexington, Kentucky
  • St. Augustine, Florida
  • Fairfax, Virginia
  • Erie, Pennsylvania
  • Sandy Springs, Georgia
  • Midtown, Atlanta
  • Nation of Guyana
  • Washington, D.C.

Openings scheduled for later this year include Hershey, Pennsylvania; South Florida; and, Clermont, Florida. A third shop also is planned for Guyana this year. Bruster’s expects to soon announce details of a multi-unit development for California. “The inquiries just keep pouring in,” Sahene added. “That tells us Bruster’s is clearly on the right track, and that ice cream remains as popular as it always has been, despite the explosion – some might say overbuilding – of frozen-yogurt concepts. Positioned as “A Scoop Above the Rest,” Bruster’s in 2014 posted a 4.6 percent same-store sales increase. Average unit volumes are up nearly 20 percent since 2012. “Mentoring Tomorrow's Leaders Today” serves as Bruster's foundation and business platform. Bruster’s features 150 flavors of handcrafted ice cream, yogurt, Italian ice and sorbet, with at least 24 made fresh in each shop daily. There are nearly 200 independently owned locations in 18 states and the nation of Guyana. Go here [http://www.brusters.com/own_value.asp] for franchise information.
