Art Van Furniture and WDIV-TV’s “Help Me Hank” Create Community Initiative To Collect And Deliver Bottled Water

To Flint Residents In Reponse To Water Crisis

Public urged to donate bottled water to Art Van Furniture stores in metro Detroit, Flint, Lansing

January 13, 2016 // Franchising.com // WARREN, Mich. – The Flint water crisis has had a devastating impact on its residents, and Art Van Furniture and WDIV-TV Local 4’s Hank Winchester, consumer investigative reporter and head of the station’s “Help Me Hank” consumer unit, have joined forces to collect and deliver bottled water to those in need. Starting at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, January 12, all Art Van Furniture stores in metro Detroit, Flint and Lansing will be accepting donations of bottled water from the public. Art Van Furniture delivery trucks will transport the collected water to Flint weekly as long as the need exists.

“Having clean, safe water is fundamental for the health and well-being of every individual,” said Art Van Elslander, founder and chairman of Art Van Furniture. “It is essential for all of us to do what we can to ease the extraordinary emotional and physical toll the water crisis has taken on the fine residents of Flint. All of us at Art Van Furniture and Local 4 are committing to help those in need, and know that the communities we serve will join us in this necessary effort.”

There is a great need for bottled water daily in homes, neighborhoods, warming centers and soup kitchens throughout the city of Flint. The bottled water transported to Flint by Art Van Furniture delivery trucks will be warehoused and distributed to residents by Catholic Charities of Shiawassee & Genesee Counties. The organization, which also serves up to 800 meals a day at its three soup kitchens, and has been using bottled water to cook.
