July 15 Home Award to Fallbrook Marine Takes on Special Meaning for Budget Blinds

Leading window coverings provider will make annual $50,000 donation as part of partnership with Homes For Our Troops

Marine Private First Class Issac Blunt has a unique story to tell

July 11, 2017 // Franchising.com // FALLBROOK, Calif. - For Budget Blinds, the July 15 presentation of a specially adapted custom home to retired Marine Private First Class Issac Blunt of Fallbrook by Homes For Our Troops (HFOT) holds an even deeper meaning.

A three-year partner of HFOT that has provided custom window coverings including measurement and installation to nearly 100 specially adapted homes for Veterans, Budget Blinds will be using the July 15 Key Ceremony to make its annual $50,000 award to the nonprofit organization committed to rebuilding Veteran lives. In all, Budget Blinds has awarded HFOT $150,000 in cash as part of a three-year partnership that also includes product donations and professional services.

The Budget Blinds® brand is part of the Home Franchise Concepts family of franchise brands that also includes Tailored Living® and Concrete Craft®. The three franchises are consistently rated among the top retail brands in their respective categories and are supported by more than 1,340 franchise territories in the U.S., Canada and Mexico.

“HFC has always been about providing a home – both for our franchisees in the home goods and services space, and their customers,” said HFC CEO Shirin Behzadi. “As part of this mission, we’re honored to support HFOT’s critical work to provide specially adapted custom homes for Veterans severely injured in the line of duty.”

According to Behzadi, testimony to HFC’s commitment to Veterans is the fact that Budget Blinds franchisees have raised an additional $90,000 on their own during the past three years.

“Veterans and their unique stories have always been near and dear to our hearts. Private First Class Blunt has an extraordinary story to tell about his deployment with the 1st Battalion, 5th Marines, in Afghanistan – and we’re privileged to share this special day with him and his family...”

The Key Ceremony for Marine Private First Class Issac Blunt is on July 15, at 10am, and is open to the public. Visitors are asked to park in the overflow lot at Christ the King Church at 1620 Stage Coach Lane in Fallbrook for round-trip shuttles to the home site beginning at 9am.

Springs Window Fashions partners with HFC to provide window coverings to HFOT homes and will be participating in the July 15 ceremony.

HFC’s sponsorship of HFOT is part of the franchisor’s long-term support for Veterans’ programs that also includes Wounded Warriors Canada, Designing Spaces’ Military Makeover on Lifetime® Television, NBC’s George to the Rescue and the HFC Million Dollar Franchise Event which awarded more than $1 million in initial franchise fee discounts to former servicemen and servicewomen in 2014.

On July 19, Budget Blinds is presenting $15,000 to Wounded Warriors Canada to bring its three-year partnership support to $45,000 for this organization.

Earlier this year, HFC launched HFC’s There’s No Place Like Home™ Veteran Partnership and Giveaway, which asks HFC franchisees and partners to nominate a deserving former U.S. or Canadian military Veteran to be considered to receive a Budget Blinds, Tailored Living or Concrete Craft franchise territory plus two weeks of extensive business-development training and up to $100,000 in operating capital*.

The U.S. or Canadian Veteran selected for the award will receive their franchise territory on Nov. 11, Veterans Day in the U.S. and Canadian Remembrance Day.

*HFC also established a GoFundMe site to allow the public to donate toward a $50,000 working capital goal. HFC will be matching the working capital donations to the GoFundMe site up to $50,000. For details, go to http://homefranchiseconcepts.com/veterans-partnerships/

Thanks to these and ongoing discount programs, HFC has introduced hundreds of Veterans to business ownership to the point that Veterans now represent a sizeable percentage of the company’s more than 1,340 franchise territories in the U.S., Canada and Mexico.

About Marine PFC Isaac Blunt

Marine Private First Class Issac Blunt joined the Marines shortly after high school and started his first deployment to Afghanistan in March 2011. On June 13 of that year, PFC Blunt, a rifleman with the 1st Battalion, 5th Marines, was on foot patrol in Sangin, Afghanistan, when he stepped on a pressure plate improvised explosive device (IED). The blast resulted in the loss of both his legs, his left eye, and several fingers on his left hand.

Now medically retired, Isaac plays wheelchair basketball on Balboa Medical Center’s team, Wolf Pack. He also trains to stay in shape for mountain climbing.

In a mortgage-free home, Blunt will be able to focus on his future without having to worry about moving apartments frequently. With this stability, his daughter will have a place she can call “home.” The special adaptations Isaac is most looking forward to are the pull-down cabinets and lower countertops, making it easier for him to reach appliances while in his wheelchair.

Originally from Wisconsin, Isaac is choosing to build his home in California to be near the VA and his sister. Isaac would like HFOT’s supporters to know their donations are going to a good cause and this home will make a difference in his daily life. “The service you provide to make our lives easier is beyond words,” he says.

About Homes for Our Troops

Homes For Our Troops (HFOT) is a privately funded 501(c) (3) nonprofit organization that builds and donates specially adapted custom homes nationwide for severely injured post – 9/11 Veterans, to enable them to rebuild their lives. Most of these Veterans have sustained injuries including multiple limb amputations, partial or full paralysis, and/or severe traumatic brain injury (TBI). These homes restore some of the freedom and independence our Veterans sacrificed while defending our country, and enable them to focus on their family, recovery, and rebuilding their lives.

Since its inception in 2004, nearly 90 cents of every dollar has gone directly to HFOT’s program services for Veterans. HFOT builds these homes where the Veteran chooses to live, and continues its relationship with the Veterans after home delivery to assist them with rebuilding their lives.
