September 08, 2017 // Franchising.com // SALT LAKE CITY - Cookie Cutters Haircuts for Kids, one of the first and most unique children’s haircutting franchises in the country, has been named to Inc. magazine’s 36th Annual Inc. 5000 list, an exclusive ranking of the nation’s fast-growing private companies. Ranked #1353, this marks Cookie Cutters’ first ever appearance on the prestigious list and is based on a 301% three-year growth rate.
“Our unique store design and truly interactive experience continues to set us apart from our competitors in the children's-only sector of the hair industry. This is no doubt a key reason for our continued ability to attract new franchisees and subsequent growth,” said CEO Neal Courtney, a former Cookie Cutters franchisee who acquired the brand in December 2014. “We are honored to be recognized as one of the nation’s fastest-growing companies and look forward to maintaining our presence on the list in the years to come.”
The average company featured on the Inc. 5000 list has achieved a three-year average growth of 481%. The list’s aggregate revenue is $206 billion, and the companies on the list collectively generated 619,500 jobs over the past three years.
“The Inc. 5000 is the most persuasive evidence I know that the American Dream is still alive,” said Inc. President and Editor-In-Chief Eric Schurenberg. “The founders and CEOs of the Inc. 5000 tell us they think determination, risk taking, and vision were the keys to their success, and I believe them.”
For more than 20 years, Cookie Cutters has offered an interactive haircut experience that both children and parents won’t soon forget. Upon entering the salons, children are welcomed by an in-store playground where they can climb and slide. Come time for the haircut, each station on the cutting floor is outfitted with unique fantasy chairs - from race cars to motorcycles, firetrucks to airplanes - as well as televisions for the kids to watch shows or play video games. With a balloon, sucker and a smile at the end of each haircut, the Cookie Cutters experience is designed to keep children coming back again and again.
“Cookie Cutters fits a simple niche and fulfills a basic need of providing all children, including those with special needs or sensory issues, with a good haircut that is done in a comfortable setting and on trend,” said Courtney. “For potential business owners, the franchise provides a low cost of entry, a turnkey business model and the potential to provide a strong return on investment.”
Including a franchise fee of $40,000, the total investment to open a single unit Cookie Cutters salon is $90,500 to $261,000. Franchisees can add a second location for an additional $20,000, three or more locations for an additional $10,000 each.
Today, there are over 50 salons open and operating in 19 states, and more than 150 additional locations in various stages of development across the U.S. and Canada.
