Atlanta-Area Entrepreneurs Vickey and Gary Shelton to Open Second Restaurant 16 Years After First

October 20, 2017 // Franchising.com // McDonough, Ga. - After 16 years owning and operating Mrs. Winner’s Chicken & Biscuits in Stockbridge, Georgia, a local couple has signed a deal to open their second restaurant in McDonough. The expansion is a result of strong demand for Mrs. Winner’s in the Atlanta community and the advancements made to the brand in recent years. Located at 579 Highway 42 South, the new restaurant is expected to debut by Christmas.

Vickey and Gary Shelton have been involved with Mrs. Winner’s since 2001, initially investing their life savings to buy the Stockbridge restaurant. By focusing on elevated service and menu consistency, the Shelton’s have expanded the customer base, and experienced double-digit revenue increases over the past three years. Correlated to the brand’s overall growth, the Shelton’s are jumping at the ripe opportunity to reinvest in Mrs. Winner’s.

“Aside from our loyal customers, my devoted employees have been instrumental in helping to open my second restaurant, most of whom have been with me for over ten years,” said Vickey. “In addition to the new field support consultants and updated training programs at the corporate level, our existing employees will be instrumental in developing the customer-focused service at McDonough. It’s exciting to see the growth we have experienced and the innovation paving the way for Mrs. Winner’s future.”

While known for its authentic southern fried chicken, Mrs. Winner’s distinctive menu also features freshly-made biscuit sandwiches, mouth-watering cinnamon rolls, delicious sweet tea and a selection of hearty side items. Mrs. Winner’s is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, and encourages guests to “be true to their hunger” while indulging in traditional, southern-style fare.

Mrs. Winner’s was founded in 1979 by former KFC owner, Jack Massey. Massey helped build Mrs. Winner’s into an iconic southern fried chicken brand with 184 restaurants at its peak. Under new ownership since 2013, Mrs. Winner’s has been adapted to meet the needs the 21st Century consumer. With updated technology, elevated customer service and new items being added to the menu, Mrs. Winner’s continues to serve the same authentic southern food with a modern flare.

Currently, Mrs. Winner’s operates 14 locations throughout Georgia, North Carolina and Tennessee and looks to add 25 to 50 new locations over the next five years.
