Leading Preschool Franchise Continues Growth Into 2018

Primrose Schools® Opened 33 New Schools, Awarded 53 New Franchise Agreements In 2017

January 31, 2018 // Franchising.com // ATLANTA - Primrose Schools, a national preschool franchise company, continued its momentum in 2017 by increasing unit growth by more than 9 percent. Primrose increased its presence across the country by adding two new states to its footprint and opening 33 total schools in both urban and suburban markets.

Through a strong system of Franchise Owners and heightened need in the U.S. for high-quality early education and care, Primrose Schools expanded to 372 schools in 29 states. The company plans to increase that number to more than 500 by the end of 2020. Now serving more than 54,000 students, Primrose Schools plans to increase its number of employer-sponsored and small suburban city locations and multi-unit Franchise Owners to reach its ambitious goals.

“Our Franchise Owners remain firm in their commitment to the Primrose mission and to providing an unparalleled early learning experience for children and their families,” said Steve Clemente, President of Primrose Schools. “Our continued success in 2017 reflects the strong leadership and commitment to excellence that permeates our entire system.”

Named the number one franchise in the children’s services category by Entrepreneur for the second year in a row, Primrose Schools provides high-quality education and care to children from infancy to six years old. By recruiting local entrepreneurs from many different backgrounds, each school is owned and operated by members of the community who have leadership and management expertise along with a passion for early education.

In Ohio, one of those local entrepreneurs is Sarah Churchill, Franchise Owner of the first Primrose school in Toledo, Ohio. Churchill earned a degree in accounting from The Ohio State University, but upon returning to her hometown, she realized there was market demand for a school like Primrose.

“Our family fell in love with Primrose Schools when we lived in Columbus and our eldest daughter needed child care, so I’ve seen the positive impact that the Balanced Learning® approach can have on children and the difference it has made in my family,” said Churchill. “Opening a school in a new market is incredibly rewarding because we have the opportunity to grow the business here as more and more parents experience the excellence associated with our brand. My husband and I are thrilled to be part of an organization that continues to grow while holding onto its original mission and values.”

At Primrose Schools, each school is built with the community in mind. The School Development Team works closely with the Franchise Owners and local commercial real estate professionals to develop schools suitable for each market, creating unique models and solutions to fulfill the needs of the community and its families.

“Primrose Franchise Owners each bring their unique backgrounds and experiences, but they share a true dedication to the communities they serve,” said Clemente. “Our goal is to serve as many children and families as we can, in communities of varying populations and sizes, so we can amplify the positive impact we’ve seen in the markets surrounding our schools.”

According to IBISWorld, education-based child care is a robust $48 billion a year industry, expanding annually for the past five years at 1.3 percent. Primrose plans to contribute to this growth by opening 30 new schools in 2018. Based on demographics, the company has identified the following markets prime for immediate expansion and in great need of high-quality early education:

  • Boston
  • Chicago
  • Miami / Ft. Lauderdale
  • Orange County, Calif.
  • Philadelphia
  • San Diego
