theCoderSchool Set to Open in Yorba Linda

Silicon Valley-based children’s enterprise franchise continues California expansion.

March 27, 2018 // Franchising.com // PALO ALTO, CALIF. - theCoderSchool - recently identified as one of Entrepreneur magazine’s hottest brands - has announced that a new school is set to open mid-April in Yorba Linda, CA. The school will aim to show the next generation of kids how inspiring and exciting technology can be, while providing coding skills that are in high demand and applicable across all industries.

The new school, located at 18627 Yorba Linda Boulevard, will be the first of several locations that owner Jim Shen ultimately plans to open in the Southern California area in the coming years. Already the owner of theCoderSchool in San Francisco, Shen, wanted to bring the unique 2:1 Code Coaching concept to the community where he grew up and still visits often.

“At theCoderSchool, we match coaches with each child. They work in small groups so the child can succeed at their own pace and focus on what they’re interested in learning,” said Shen. “We make learning fun so kids enjoy the challenge of breaking down complex problems. This way they don’t even realize they’re actually learning at the same time.”

An engineer by training, Shen discovered theCoderSchool when looking for a Coder Camp for his 6-year old son and was thoroughly impressed. “As a parent, I spent a lot of time trying to understand what my son was learning. I was amazed at how much computer programming has evolved since I was growing up,” said Shen. “I realized that for this generation, coding is now considered another language that can appeal to everyone and is not just a science.”

Founded by Hansel Lynn and incubated with the help of his best friend, Wayne Teng, theCoderSchool was built with the desire to provide children aged 7 to 18 years with a welcoming environment to develop computer programming skills. theCoderSchool uses a variety of platforms to teach various coding languages, such as HTML, CSS, Python, Javascript and more. Every Code Coaching lesson is customized with the help of trained Code Coaches® who use a 2-on-1 approach to teaching.

“For Wayne and I, the goal of theCoderSchool has always been to set girls and boys up with a positive, lifelong relationship with tech and coding. We’ve been humbled by the great feedback we’ve received from parents and kids from coast to coast and look forward to having Jim share his passion and expertise in Yorba Linda,” noted Lynn.

theCoderSchool is a proud founding member of the International Alliance of Youth Coding Educators (IAYCE), a group of global partners working to further coding education for youth around the world. To date, IAYCE has taught more than 40,000 students world-wide and anticipates that number growing to 100,000 students within the next five years.
