Senior Helpers® to Host Understanding Alzheimer’s and Dementia Seminar, April 25

Nationally Renowned Dementia Care Expert to Offer Professional Insight to Healthcare Professionals, Senior Advocates and Loved Ones

April 17, 2018 // Franchising.com // HUNTSVILLE, AL - Senior Helpers® of Huntsville, one of the nation’s premier providers of personalized in-home senior care, today announced it will host a seminar on Alzheimer’s and memory loss on April 25, led by nationally renowned dementia care expert, Teepa Snow. Snow is returning to Huntsville to conduct two sessions designed to educate families, caregivers and healthcare professionals about the effects of dementia while providing strategies and coping mechanisms. There are currently 5.7 million Americans living with Alzheimer’s, and that number is projected to reach 14 million by 2050. It’s important, now more than ever, to equip people with tools to care for those with memory loss.

“At Senior Helpers, we work with all kinds of families and see the toll illnesses like Alzheimer’s and dementia can have on family caregivers. Through the two-part seminar, our goal is help healthcare professionals, caregivers and families better understand memory loss,” said Julie Yates, Director of Client Services of Senior Helpers of Huntsville. “Teepa will educate each attendee on dementia and Alzheimer’s progression, while offering practical strategies on how to modify support in order to optimize care for those living with the brain change, whether that’s in a medical setting or at home.”

The seminar, titled, “Understanding Alzheimer’s and Dementia” will consist of two separate sessions, one created for family caregivers and the other focused on medical professionals. Attendees can expect to learn about a variety of topics between the two sessions, including how to recognize common changes due to memory loss, tactics for providing proper care and different care approaches for the best quality of life, and more. Breakfast and snacks will be provided to attendees.

*Morning Session: “The Role of Medical Advisors – What People with Dementia & Their Families Want & Need from You”

• 8 to 11:30 a.m. for healthcare professionals and caregivers
• Up to three CEUs are offered for a variety of departments
• Online registration before 4/23/18: $35 for CEU Attendees and $25 for Non CEU attendees. Prices increase if purchased at the door.

*Afternoon Session: “Sorting Out the Three D’s: Delirium, Depression & Dementia - What Every Provider and Caregiver Needs to Know”

• 1:30 to 4 p.m. for families, loved ones and senior advocates
• Free and open to the public
• It’s beneficial to anyone who is providing support or care to a parent, spouse other family member or friend.
