From Kumon Parent to Kumon Owner: Local Resident Joins World's Largest Education Program After Children Experience Success in the Program

Kumon Math and Reading Center of Oakley Now Taking Enrollments

OAKLEY, Calif. - Nov. 14, 2018 // PRNewswire // - With a background in financial services and a growing career as a market analyst at the New York Stock Exchange, Maria Shin was using her love of numbers daily, but yearned to own her own business. Combined with her passion for children and the positive experiences her sons had as Kumon Students, she had all the pieces in place to become a small business owner and open Kumon Math and Reading Center of Oakley.

"I always wanted to own a business I believed in and would enjoy working at daily. After seeing my kids benefit from the Kumon Program, I decided to look into opening a Kumon Center," said Shin, owner and Instructor of Kumon Math and Reading Center of Oakley. "As a small business owner, I'm not only helping my students succeed, but I'm also investing in the community, which I'm very passionate about."

The Kumon Method empowers preschool to high school aged children to become self-learners and is designed to advance math and reading skills while fostering a love for learning. It goes beyond traditional tutoring by actively developing critical thinking skills as children progress independently through a carefully crafted curriculum.
