Aroma Joe’s Shows the Maine Difference

With steady growth, friendly baristas and ‘farm-to-sip’ philosophy, the New England coffee-based franchise may one day roast the competition

July 11, 2019 // Franchising.com // Portland, Maine - In an endless sea of corporate coffee cups, Aroma Joe’s has separated itself by putting just as much emphasis on the customer experience as its products. From hand-crafted coffee, unique, infused blends, signature AJS RUSH® Energy Drinks to all-day breakfast and baked goods, this emerging franchise has been helping folks Find Your Fuel™ all across Maine, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania and Florida.

Aroma Joe’s, which was founded in 2000 by four cousins (two sets of brothers) from Maine, began franchising in 2013 and currently have 65 stores across five states with 22 more in development. Whether it’s helping customers or franchisees, Aroma Joe’s serves positive energy by focusing daily on the customer, the community, and the cup.

“We’re more than a coffee company,” Aroma Joe’s CEO Loren Goodridge said. “We’re known for our diverse selection of original beverages, food and unparalleled customer service. Because we don’t use intercoms at our drive-thrus, our baristas have even more chances to know our regulars and their favorite products.

Besides the good vibes and great service, Aroma Joe’s is known for its “farm-to-sip” coffee experience. Unlike many of its competitors, the company has made a large-scale commitment to sourcing and using only 100 percent Rainforest Alliance Certified™ coffee, which meets rigorous environmental, social and economic standards.

“Unlike many of our competitors, Aroma Joe’s proprietary coffee blends (used for hot, iced, cold brew and espresso beverages) are 100% Rainforest Alliance Certified™,” Goodridge added. “It is important we know where our coffee comes from and to support the farmers who make it possible”.

Aroma Joe’s is targeting a 20-30 percent growth rate each year and looking to fill the New England market over the next three years, with the eastern seaboard next within 5-10 years. The cost of opening an Aroma Joe’s franchise, including the franchise fee and overall investment cost, is between $256,500 to $702,000. One Aroma Joe’s location is 790 square feet on average.
