Local Family with More Than 20 Years Restaurant Industry Experience Open Second Firehouse Subs Restaurant in Columbia

September 09, 2019 // Franchising.com // COLUMBIA, Mo. - Firehouse Subs announces the grand opening of its second restaurant in Columbia, Missouri, at 3507 Norfleet Drive, Ste. 101. The restaurant will open its doors to the public on Thursday, September 5, under the ownership of Firehouse Subs Franchisees Brian Collins, Jonathon Collins and Jaime Collins.

Firehouse Subs serves a variety of hot specialty subs, piled high with premium meats and cheeses that are sliced fresh daily in-restaurant and steamed together to bring out the ingredients’ natural flavors, served “Fully Involved®” with fresh produce and condiments. In addition to its signature subs, the restaurant offers a variety of catering options from sandwich and dessert platters to salads and snacks to fuel any occasion.

This will be the sixth Firehouse Subs restaurant for these business partners. Brian Collins has worked in the restaurant industry for more than 24 years. He fell in love with the brand’s food and mission and worked with his brother, Jonathon, and Jonathon’s wife, Jaime, to open their first Firehouse Subs restaurant in O’Fallon back in 2012. Since then, the three have expanded their family business across the area, including opening their first Columbia restaurant in 2014, and sharing their passion for hearty, flavorful food and heartfelt service with the communities they live and work in.

“The first time I ate at Firehouse Subs back in 2008, I was blown away by the outstanding food, the brand’s mission and the genuinely welcoming team behind the counter,” Brian Collins said. “Community is engrained in everything we do through our restaurants. We’re proud to help make a difference in people’s lives through Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation.”

The Collins family feels a deep connection with the brand’s commitment to giving back through Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation. Their grandfather was an officer who died in the line of duty, and their family saw firsthand how local non-profits stepped in to support them. The Foundation has granted more than $1.1 million in Missouri. A portion of every sale at any Firehouse Subs in the U.S. benefits the Foundation, allowing the Foundation to achieve its mission of providing lifesaving equipment, funding and education to first responders and public safety organizations across the country.

The Columbia Firehouse Subs restaurant is open from 10:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. seven days a week. It will offer third-party delivery and in-house catering services to accommodate occasions of all sizes, from office meetings to family gatherings.

Founded by former firefighting brothers, the restaurant décor reflects the founding family’s decades of fire and police service with gear and photos donated by the local fire department. It includes a custom, hand-painted mural by Chief Mural Artist Joe Puskas, featuring a local hero from the Columbia Fire Department in front of the iconic David R. Francis Quadrangle on the University of Missouri campus along with a tiger to represent the school mascot. Keen observers will also notice Brian’s cat, Jersey, featured in the mural. Since the opening of the first Firehouse Subs in 1994, Puskas and his team have painted more than 1,170 murals from his studio at Firehouse Subs Headquarters in Jacksonville, Fla.

In 2005, the Firehouse Subs founders established the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation with the mission of providing funding, lifesaving equipment and educational opportunities to first responders and public safety organizations. The 501(c)(3) Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation has granted more than $44 million to hometown heroes in 49 states, Puerto Rico and Canada. Each restaurant recycles five-gallon pickle buckets, available to guests for a $2 donation to the Foundation. Donation canisters on register counters explain the nonprofit’s mission and collect spare change, while the Round Up Program allows guests to “round up” their bill to the nearest dollar. All funds raised benefit the Foundation.
