Buff City Soap Making Arizona Debut

Booming lifestyle brand set to open first Arizona location

December 11, 2019 // Franchising.com // Memphis, Tenn. - Known as “The Starbucks of Soap,” Buff City Soap is a healthy lifestyle brand that provides plant-based soap products, and it is opening the first of five Arizona locations this winter.

Located at 21101 North John Wayne Parkway in Maricopa, the new shop is set to open on December 14 and will be owned and operated by Arizona local LaDonda Dees. She plans to open at least four more locations in the Chandler, Gilbert and Scottsdale areas over the next several years.

“I’m thrilled to introduce Buff City to Arizona,” said Dees. “The in-store experience we provide combined with the amazing products we sell makes it more than just a shopping trip when you visit Buff City Soap, and we can’t wait to share it with the tight knit community of Maricopa.”

Dees worked in sales for over 15 years, most recently for Verizon, but had always hoped to open her own business. After being introduced to Buff City Soap by her sister-in-law and falling in love with the products, she knew she had to bring it back to Arizona to share it with the community.

Buff City Soap creates a unique consumer experience with its in-house soap Makery, where customers can watch their very own Buff City Soap product be made right in front of them. There is also a retail store where customers can browse a wide variety of all-natural, plant-based products, from bath bombs to shower fizzies and everything in between.

Buff City Soap was founded in 2013 when Brad Kellum, a former firefighter paramedic discovered that his every day store-bought soap was packed with cow fat and other synthetic materials. He, along with his fiancé and cofounder Jennifer Ziemianin, a registered nurse, began experimenting with a plant-based alternative in their garage.

Now, the brand offers traditional soap bars, along with a men’s care product line, plant-based laundry soap, skin-care products and other accessories. Each shop includes a Makery, where employees handcraft each product in-store. Customers can customize their products. Furthering its customization promise, the shops host birthday parties, bachelorette nights and other events, and launched a subscription box service.

“Buff City Soap is experiencing rapid growth because of energized franchise partners like LaDonda who truly believe in the Buff City Soap brand and mission. Their passion for bringing our plant-based products to their local communities is what makes Buff City Soap so special and we are excited to have her running the Maricopa location,” said Kellum.

Buff City Soap has 29 locations open in 10 states, including Tennessee, Texas, Arkansas, Kentucky, Colorado, Ohio, Alabama, Mississippi, Arizona and Florida. There are currently over 40 additional stores in various stages of development.
