Poczta Polska And Zabka Testing The Largest Electric Truck

February 10, 2020 // Franchising.com // Poznan - Poczta Polska (Polish Post) and the Zabka retail chain will be the first in Europe to test the Framo e-truck. The companies want to verify how it works in courier logistics and as part of a retail network. The vehicle, powered solely by electricity, is manufactured on the basis of MAN TGM by the German manufacturer Framo Gmbh.

  • The test of the Framo e-truck in Wroclaw is our next step towards modern, eco-friendly logistics solutions. Let me remind you that last year, together with Volkswagen Polska, we tested the electric e-Crafter to better manage and optimize logistics processes, and thus deliver products to stores even faster and provide high quality service to franchisees - says Katarzyna Slabowska, Logistics Department Director at the Zabka retail chain.

Zabka is testing the vehicle in Wroclaw as part of direct deliveries to its retail network, continuing its strategy of developing zero-emission transportation in cities - with low environmental impact and friendly to the locals. The use of electric cars will allow Zabka to effectively deliver goods to stores, at the same time reducing pollution and noise in city centers.

Poczta Polska uses the truck for the daily transportation of parcels in the Masovian Voivodeship. As part of the tests, the company cooperates with the Polish Alternative Fuels Association.

  • Poczta Polska, in accordance with its amended strategy, wants to reduce CO2 emissions and introduce electric cars to its fleet, with the first electric supply vans joining in at the end of 2019. Currently the Company has the largest fleet of utility e-cars in Poland. In the coming years we want to expand it with more electric cars as well as vehicles using CNG/LNG alternative fuels - says Justyna Siwek, spokesperson of Poczta Polska.

The battery capacity of the Framo e-truck is 280 kWh, while its range exceeds 200 kilometers on a single charge. Its technical parameters allow for zero-emission transportation of goods with appropriate respect for the natural environment. The tests were organized by Poczta Polska in cooperation with Keatronik and Hitachi Capital Polska.

Zabka actively promotes modern urban logistics with consideration to the natural environment and local communities. This applies in particular to large cities, where its outlets are located in central points, such as main streets, office complexes, and shopping malls. Last year, as the first retail network in Poland, together with the Volkswagen Samochody Uzytkowe brand, Zabka tested the fully electric e-Crafter during its daily deliveries to Poznan stores. Zabka has been investing heavily in logistics infrastructure for years, and the development of its electric car fleet is an important aspect of sustainable urban transportation for the company.

Since 2018 Poczta Polska has been conducting the largest tests of electric cars available on the domestic market. Until now the tests included cars with capacities of up to 800 kg from seven manufacturer brands. It took the drivers of Poczta Polska three months to check, among others, their driving characteristics (e.g. acceleration, speed, braking, maneuverability), driving comfort and ergonomics, battery charging methods, and the distance that can be traveled. Apart from the cars, various types of charging stations provided by their owners were tested at the same time. In mid-May last year further tests of electric cars up to 3.5 tons, this time with a load capacity of over 800 kg, were concluded. Eight cars by brands available on the Polish market participated. Poczta Polska also tested tractors fueled with liquefied LNG.
