L & L Hawaiian Barbecue Continues Its Role as “Ambassador of Aloha”

Providing Relief to Its Franchisees as They Assist Their Local Communities L&L Challenges Community to Share their “Acts of Aloha”

April 03, 2020 // Franchising.com // Honolulu - Beginning with its introduction of plate lunches and Hawaiian Comfort Food to the mainland and beyond, L & L Hawaiian Barbecue has taken its role as an “Ambassador of Aloha” very seriously. At no time has it been more crucial to spread the Spirt of Aloha.

L & L corporate staff is working overtime, and will continue to do so, to support its franchisees and, by extension, the communities for which they operate. To show its love and compassion, it created the “L & L Relief Program” for the franchisees and is challenging its customers and restaurants to engage in “Acts of Aloha.”

“We thank all of the members of our L & L Ohana for their continued efforts and perseverance to keep their and our dream alive,” said L & L CEO Elisia Flores, “Despite the challenges, we believe that the spirit of Aloha is alive and strong. Together, we will overcome and emerge stronger than ever.”

For its franchisees whose businesses are suffering as a result of COVID-19, L & L is waiving advertising fees in March and April, in addition to deferring royalty fees for those two months.

“With these financial burdens removed, our franchises will be able to keep their small businesses operating and continue to help their communities with their own Acts of Aloha,” said Flores.

L & L Hawaiian Barbecue, which has over 200 locations in 15 states and Japan, is one of the only restaurant groups opting to waive advertising fees, rather than deferring them. The majority of L & L franchises are open and serving takeout, but sales have declined by 30 to 60% in some areas. L & L Corporate will continue to make adjustments as necessary.

To recognize their franchisees from across the globe who are helping their local communities, L & L features an Act of Aloha every Friday on its social media platforms. Currently, franchisees in Washington and California are preparing to donate plate lunches to St. Peter’s Hospital in Olympia, WA and UCSD Medical Center in San Diego, CA. On Oahu, L & L Corporate team is in the process of delivering 100 plate lunches to local hospitals.

L & L is also challenging their franchises and customers to share their own Act of Aloha by posting a picture on social media with the hashtag #LLActsofAloha. Each Friday, L & L will share those photos on its social media platforms and present each participate with a complimentary L &L logo item. Each post will be entered in a weekly random drawing for a $100 L & L Gift Card.
