Goldfish Swim School - Edmond Awarded National Grant from the USA Swim Foundation

Leading local swim school is one of the 67 selected partners to receive funding

April 29, 2021 // Franchising.com // Edmond, Okla. - Goldfish Swim School - Edmond, a leading premier learn-to-swim concept, has been awarded a National grant by the USA Swimming Foundation to go toward swim lesson programs providing children with the opportunity to learn to swim. In total, the USA Swimming Foundation awarded $507,618 to learn-to-swim programs in 27 states across the country through its 2021 grant funding.

The foundation vetted more than 240 applications through a competitive review process and chose 67 programs to receive funding. Goldfish Swim School - Edmond plans to use its grant to provide 900 high quality swim lessons for children who qualify for the Backpack Program at Sunset Elementary School in the Edmond Public Schools system, and their siblings who are under 12 years old, at no cost to families who would otherwise not be able to afford swim lessons. The grant will provide scholarships for up to 75 children.

“We are so honored to have been a recipient of this grant from the USA Swimming Foundation,” said Natasha Neumann, Owner and Manager of Goldfish Swim School - Edmond. “We look forward to continuing to fulfill Goldfish Swim School’s mission of ensuring all kids feel safe in and around the water through our connections with the Backpack Program at Sunset Elementary and provide free swim lessons to those who may not have the opportunity otherwise.”

The Backpack Program ran by Sunset Elementary is part of the Food for Kids program through the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma which serves chronically hungry children. One in four children in Oklahoma live with food insecurity and through the Backpack Program, children receive a sack full of kid-friendly, non-perishable and nutritious foods on Fridays to sustain them over the weekends and school holidays. The Regional Food Bank delivers pre-assembled food snacks to participating schools at no cost to the school or the child.

The USA Swimming Foundation joined by its network of 1,000 swim lesson providers across the country are helping to spread national awareness on the importance of learning to swim and bringing together strategic partners to end drowning. More than 7.5 million children have now been served by this initiative since 2007.

“This year, these grants will help support an estimated 13,800 children nationwide with the opportunity to learn how to swim. We’re grateful to be able to play a small part in our Edmond community to give kids the platform to build essential life skills that will help them make waves in life,” added Neumann.
