WBU Reaches New Heights in Franchising

April 19, 2023 // Franchising.com // CARMEL, Ind. - Wild Birds Unlimited (WBU) plans to add 13 additional locations in 2023. WBU franchise owners are nature enthusiasts with solid business acumen. By opening a WBU store they are becoming an active member of their local community.

“We are proud of the contributions our Wild Birds Unlimited team makes to their local community and the franchise industry. Franchising fosters small business ownership and is an integral player in Main Street America,” said Jim Carpenter, WBU’s founder and chief executive. “Franchising enabled Wild Birds Unlimited to spread the message about the important role of backyard songbirds.”

Recognizing the crucial role franchising plays in WBU’s history, the bird feeding and backyard supply chain is returning the favor. Paul Pickett, WBU’s chief development officer and executive vice president of franchising, is doing his part to create an inclusive environment in the franchising community. He is the co-founder and co-chair of the International Franchise Association’s Franchising Pride Council, established as part of the IFA Foundation's Diversity Institute. Established in 2019, the Franchising Pride Council is spearheading IFA’s efforts to support diversity and inclusiveness among its franchisors, franchisees, and employees at every level of the franchise industry.

Pickett also joined the prestigious board of IFA Foundation, which provides the franchising community and its advocates with the tools and knowledge to promote and protect the franchise business model. It also ensures that the community remains inclusive, diverse, and a force for good in communities around the country and the world.

“Wild Birds Unlimited is doing its part to ensure the franchise industry continues to flourish,” Pickett said. “Entrepreneurship provides opportunities for people from all walks of life. We want to take an active role to ensure the franchise community is welcoming and advocates for diversity and inclusion.”
