British Swim School Continues Growth with New Location in Texas

Learn to Swim Provider Expands in McKinney-Allen

April 27, 2023 // Franchising.com // McKinney-Allen, TX - British Swim School continues its expansion across North America with the opening of its newest franchise location in McKinney-Allen, TX.

Soumendu Roy is the owner and operator of the new British Swim School. Roy has spent the past 25 years working in the software industry. However, he determined that it was time for a new direction in his life and found the prospect of becoming a franchisee with British Swim School enticing. Roy says he was attracted to the British Swim School mission and business model.

“It’s unique compared to other swim schools,” he admitted. “I feel like I really connected with the British Swim School misson, in that they want to make everyone safe and happy swimmers. Safety comes first. They want to teach people how to be safe in the water, then how to swim.”

For more than 40 years, British Swim School has been dedicated to teaching water survival skills by teaching infants, children, and adults of all ages the skills needed for water acclimation, water survival, and stroke development. Its mission - ensure that every person, regardless of age or ability, has the opportunity to become a safe and happy swimmer.

Across the nation, eleven people die every day from unintentional drownings, with nearly 4,000 deaths occurring each year. Research shows that participation in formal swim programs, such as those offered by British Swim School, can reduce the risk of drowning by 88% among children who are most at risk for deaths caused by drowning. However, the risk of drowning isn’t limited to children: a Red Cross survey found that more than half of all Americans either can’t swim or don’t have the basic swimming skills needed to save themselves in the event of a water emergency.

For Roy, the importance of swim safety was driven home when his son, not yet a toddler, was drawn to a swimming pool by his curiosity and fell in unobserved by most of the nearby adults. Fortunately, Roy’s son was rescued from the water by a sharp-eyed friend. “I realized from that day how important swim safety is. Drowning can happen quickly and I’m really looking forward to helping those in my community learn the valuable lessons of swim safety.”

“We’re thrilled to have Soumendu Roy joining our franchise,” said Ashley Gundlach, British Swim School President.
