Franchise Theatre School Builds Legacy With Own Charity to Support Students

May 05, 2023 // Franchising.com // Many young people dream of being on the stage, but one theatre school franchise is making that dream a reality. Rosalia Morales is currently in rehearsals with the company of Starlight Express and will head to Germany to play Dinah, one of the lead roles. She has also played the role of Maria in West Side Story at the Ljubljana Festival, bringing to life her dream of being a professional performer.

Rosalia was able to achieve her potential thanks in part to being a student at Razzamataz Theatre Schools. Not only did she achieve excellent training in dance, drama and singing, her confidence and self-belief was nurtured by the team of exceptional teachers and assistants. Once she graduated, she had the amazing opportunity to audition for the Future Fund, Razzamataz’s own charity that provides grants to students going on to study at college or university. Rosalia was announced the winner in 2016 alongside runner up Robson Broad who is also working in the West End, with his first role in smash hit Hamilton and now as part of the cast of multi-award-winning Moulin Rouge.

Last year, the winner of the Future Fund was Abbie Grimley, a student at Razzamataz Glasgow North. Abbie is currently studying the BA (Hons) Musical theatre course at the MGA Academy of Performing Arts in Edinburgh with her sights set on moving down to London to begin auditioning upon graduation.

“I had heard about the Future Fund whilst growing up at Razzamataz and when I decided I wanted to go into training, I knew it would be a great opportunity for me to get funding to support me on my journey,” says Abbie. “I did not think I would win; I was so shocked and pleased when I found out.”

Submissions for this year’s Future Fund auditions need to be sent to Head Office by Friday 19th May and like previous years, the panel of judges is made up of industry professionals. Razzamataz is delighted to announce former student Peter Houston, an alumni of Razzamataz West Cumbria, as a judge as well as Felicity French, the in-house Casting Director at Cameron Mackintosh Ltd. Peter has performed in many West End musical theatre shows including Mary Poppins, Hamilton, Matilda, Charlie & the Chocolate Factory and We Will Rock You as well as UK and international tours. TV credits include The Royal Variety Performance, Saturday Night Takeaway, This Morning, A League of Their Own, The Olivier Awards, Blue Peter and Britain’s Got Talent.

Ensuring students feel supported throughout the entire process, the judging panel offers advice and gives each student time to be fully relaxed into their audition as Abbie explains: “The audition process was great, and you get lots of support from Razzamataz. The judging panel were so lovely, and it was great to get their feedback and have the chance to perform for them. My advice to other students is definitely go for it and give it your all. I’m so happy I went ahead and put myself forward.”

The Future Fund charity is unique to Razzamataz and shows the commitment of the Founder and MD Denise Hutton-Gosney in ensuring students can reach their full potential and have access to incredible opportunities, even after leaving Razzamataz.

“We are exceptionally proud of the Future Fund charity and the opportunities it has given students who have then gone on to achieve incredible things,” says Denise. “It’s wonderful for the young people and an incredible legacy that we are building.”
