Provider of Supplemental, Enrichment Education Resells Orange Park and Jacksonville Centers to New Owner

June 08, 2023 // Franchising.com // BALTIMORE - Sylvan Learning transferred ownership of its Orange Park and Jacksonville, Florida centers to local businessman and new franchise owner, Rafael Urquiza.

Urquiza has spent a majority of his career in the business process outsourcing (BPO) industry. He also owned two businesses, including a video store in the early 2000s.

“I want to own a business that will leave a lasting impact, and Sylvan is just that,” said Urquiza. “I have a small window of time before I reach retirement, and I am going to make the most of it. I’ve independently owned businesses before, which makes me appreciate the support team, the brand recognition and positive reputation I’m inheriting with Sylvan.”

All three of Urquiza’s children benefited from Sylvan. “The curriculum works, and my own kids are a testament to that,” said Urquiza. “These two centers have been around for decades, but the surrounding population has grown dramatically in recent years. There is an opportunity to reach and support more students, especially in this post-pandemic era.”
