Discovery Point Accelerates Franchise Growth

Discovery Point Child Development Centers is surging on to the national franchise scene with plans to expand as a proven brand backed by 30 years of childcare education experience.

Founded in 1988 by Cliff and Diane Clark to fill the need for high-quality childcare centers near their metro Atlanta home, Discovery Point has grown into a strong network of 47 locations throughout the Southeast.

The franchise, which offers year-round childcare for children, ages six weeks through 12 years old, recently signed a multi-center development agreement for China. The brand is also poised to strategically expand closer to home in Texas and other target markets over the next five years, notes Meredeth Jones, Senior Director of Franchise Development for Discovery Point.

With an increase in dual income households - an estimated 70 percent of mothers with children under 18 now work outside the home - the demand for high-quality preschools and childcare is stronger than ever before. Revenue across the childcare industry is projected to reach $52.5 billion by 2021. As a leading education-based childcare franchise, there has never been a better time to be a Discovery Point franchisee.

"Discovery Point has been a pioneer with internal quality assurance," Jones says. "We have implemented best practices for our centers that go above and beyond state regulations, which has resulted in an elevated level of care."

Discovery Point offers franchisees unrivaled support, a whole-child approach to instruction with a nationally renowned curriculum partner in Teaching Strategies, as well as a proprietary literature and language-based curriculum, and strategic guidance for the owner to seamlessly integrate into the brand and within the local communities they serve. The franchise oversees site selection, center construction, licensing, and training. When Discovery Point opens its doors, everything - from cribs and curriculum to puzzles and printers - is included.

"By owning a franchise with a proven, turnkey model, entrepreneurs can start their own business for themselves but not alone," Jones says. "Owning a childcare franchise is specifically rewarding in that you set your own hours and can be an active part of your community, making a deep impact on a local level. Through childcare ownership, you are shaping the minds and hearts of children in a meaningful, positive way during a critical point in their life."

Discovery Point is also a solid franchise investment. The brand is the only childcare franchise with a flat fee system, versus fees based on a percentage of total sales, explains Jones. Franchisees can own their own building and land providing an additional real estate investment opportunity and long-term equity benefits.

The unique business model also allows franchise partners to retain their entrepreneurial spirit within the framework of a supportive franchise with a winning track record of decades of childcare success. Discovery Point owners are empowered to impact their communities on the local level in ways that are important to them.

"There are Discovery Point owners who make farm-to-table sustainability a priority at their center, growing fruits and vegetables on-site," explains Jones. "There are owners who place a distinct focus on serving special needs children in their community. And there are Discovery Point owners who have made foster care their main cause, providing an opportunity for foster children in their community to get the care they need in what can be a challenging, on-demand enrollment process. Each Discovery Point owner shines in their own way within their community and with their own charitable efforts."

Franchisees of the Atlanta-based brand say being part of the thriving Discovery Point family provides financial rewards and personal fulfillment that make ownership much more than just another day at work.

"It's been truly special to own a business that allows us, as parents, to be with our own kids on a daily basis," says Salim Karnaby, who along with his wife, Andrea, owns Discovery Point Suncoast Crossing and Discovery Point Trinity in Tampa, Florida. "Our children have been enrolled in our center and it's amazing to get to watch them grow and learn with their friends, right before your eyes."
