Edible Arrangements Joins Society for Nutrition Education and Behavior

And Announces Healthy School Celebration Products in Effort to Keep Students' Sugary Sweets to a Minimum

WALLINGFORD, CT - (Marketwired - Sep 10, 2014) - Edible Arrangements, originator and category leader in fresh fruit arrangements, has joined the Society for Nutrition Education and Behavior (SNEB), the leading organization of nutrition educators in the US and worldwide. This coincides with the announcement of Edible Arrangement's healthy, all-fruit alternatives to cakes and cookies for in-school celebrations. The company's 1,200 U.S. franchisees will also be offering discounted products to schools.

"Research published in the Journal of Nutrition Education and Behavior observed that during classroom celebrations young children consumed 20% to 35% of their estimated total daily energy requirements from low-nutrient items such as cake," reports SNEB President Kendra Kattelmann. "When fruit was presented as an option, students consumed one full serving on average."

Edible Arrangements' fresh fruit Edible Pops™ are a fresh, healthy and fun way to get children to eat more fruit. Edible Pops™ come in a variety of kid-friendly shapes so they're perfect for birthday celebrations at school. Edible Arrangements also recognizes that often times, teachers provide the supplies and snacks for their students, especially in lower income areas. So, for the rest of the year, the company is offering 50% off their Pineapple Pops™ to any teacher who is purchasing for a classroom when they show their faculty I.D. in store.* The company will also make nutrition education resources available to educators to help reinforce healthy eating.

"Exposing children to the benefits of enjoying fresh fruit on a regular basis can help develop healthier eating habits for life," said Edible Arrangements' President Rob Price. "Our membership with SNEB is a step in providing other ways to get everyone to incorporate healthier eating into their celebrations."

*Required valid, current faculty ID and minimum 24 Edible Pops™ per order. Pick up in-store only.
