Dentons Adds Richard Scharlat as an Employment and Labor Partner in New York

September 19, 2014 // Franchising.com // New York - Dentons announced that Richard I. Scharlat has joined its global Employment and Labor practice as a partner in the New York office. He brings nearly two decades of experience in all aspects of employment litigation and counseling as well as commercial litigation.

"Rich's addition is an important next step as we expand our already strong focus in serving employment and labor clients in the US and around the world," said Mike McNamara, Dentons US managing partner. "We are pleased that clients will benefit from Rich's background, extensive experience and deep relationships with our team."

Scharlat concentrates his practice on labor and employment law, with particular focus in the health care sector and with skilled nursing facilities. He has extensive experience defending class actions in New York, New Jersey and California and regularly represents clients in federal and state courts, before arbitration panels, the Federal Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) and state regulatory agencies.

Scharlat's litigation experience extends to the growing needs of employers, and he has successfully defended clients in a variety of disputes including wage and hour, disparate treatment, breach of contract, age and gender discrimination, whistleblower and Americans with Disabilities Act. He has also counseled clients on policies to avoid litigation and executive compensation matters.

"On a personal level, I'm thrilled to once again work with such a talented lawyer and fine colleague," he added about Scharlat, whom Cousin worked with for more than ten years at previous firms.

Scharlat speaks and writes frequently about rulings and legislation that affect employers. He earned his JD from Rutgers University, where he as managing notes and comments editor, Computer and Technology Law Journal, and his BA, cum laude, from Yeshiva University, where he was also a Belkin Scholar.
