Time to Come Clean - Top Tips to Get Your Home in Shape for Spring

The Maids Offers These Essential Cleaning Tips to Get Your Home Ready for Spring

Omaha, Neb (PRWEB) March 13, 2015 - The cold is beginning to fade, the days are getting longer, and spring is right around the corner. Now is the time to give your home a much needed deep clean and banish dust and dirt that has accumulated throughout the cold winter months.

Spring is great time to embark upon those chores that often get overlooked. Cleaning experts from The Maids offer the following tips to help you tackle these tasks with ease.

Organize closets. Start by organizing closets. Free up extra space by purging old clothing items you haven’t worn in the last two years. Consider making a donation of unwanted items to a local charity.

Clean vents and registers. Dust and dirt quickly collect in registers and air vents, which can circulate into the air. For regular cleaning, use your vacuum with the brush attachment. For a thorough clean, remove metal vents from the wall and wash them in warm soapy water, dry and reattach.

Clean carpets. Regular carpet cleaning helps maintain your carpet and improve indoor air quality, which in turn decreases allergy and asthma symptoms. If you don’t own a carpet cleaner, look at renting a machine or hiring a professional.

Wash windows. Wash windows inside and out. Use a drop of liquid dish soap per two gallons of water and a good squeegee. You will get the best results if you wash windows on a cloudy, not sunny day, because sunlight dries the glass quickly, causing it to streak.

Vacuum and rotate mattresses. Dust and dander build up in your mattress. Vacuum your mattress using the upholstery attachment on your vacuum cleaner. Turn the mattress over, and then switch the top of the mattress to the bottom of the bed to help reduce concave areas.

Clean ceiling fans and light fixtures. Turn off your light then remove light bulbs and light casing. Dust the tops of ceiling fan blades and inside ceiling lamp globes. Wash glass fixtures in the sink by first placing a washcloth in the bottom to prevent damage, then wash with warm soapy water.

Clean wastebaskets. Empty all trash containers. Clean and disinfect them inside and out with warm, soapy water and a neutral disinfectant.

Clean cupboards and drawers. Vacuum crumbs, dust and hair, then wash the bottom and inside of each drawer and cupboard using a solution of two tablespoons vinegar per one quart of water and wipe dry.
