Avon Resident, Business Owner, Credits Fitness Together Nutrition Program with New Lifestyle
March 23, 2011 // Franchising.com // AVON, Conn. – When local resident Don Long started going to Fitness Together in Avon, Conn., it was to exercise. What he got in return was an 80-pound weight loss and a life-long bonus: a lesson on how to eat.
Fitness Together has built a national reputation for delivering one-on-one professional workouts with a personal trainer. But new to the business, which is being implemented at Fitness Together studios nationwide, is a complementary program called Nutrition Together. Don Long, who struggled to lose weight in the past, found his answer with both. He hadn't joined a stereotypical gym.
"I was intimidated by gyms," said Long. "With all my focus on working too much and not eating healthy, my priorities were out of alignment and I was overweight and out of shape."
In April of 2010, Long chose Fitness Together to help with his weight loss because of the private one-on-one training offered to clients. With the help of personal trainers Billy Pratt and Tim St. Pierre, Long lost 69 pounds by December of 2010 when he began to plateau.
"It was getting harder for him to lose the weight," said Pratt. "So in an effort to help boost his weight loss and keep him on track, I recommended he start the Nutrition Together program."
Modeled after the same one-on-one approach used for Fitness Together's personal training, Nutrition Together provides clients nutrition guidance in tandem with fitness training to help achieve and maintain a healthy lifestyle. The program is designed to offer sensible solutions and a common-sense approach to nutrition. "The Nutrition Together program gave me a clear-cut approach to eating healthy by breaking apart food portions and teaching me how to read food labels," Long says. "It was flexible and easy to follow, as long as I stayed with the guidelines, and I really learned what is healthy for me."
Long lost ten pounds during the four-week Nutrition Together program with his personal trainers, and has lost a total of 80 pounds since joining Fitness Together in 2010.
"My wife and daughter love the progress I have made. I can't believe how far I've come," Long says. "I still work out three times a week and I'm a lot more active, riding my bike and doing outside activities I couldn't do before."
