Menchie's Joins the Fight Against Muscular Dystrophy

Self-Serve Frozen Yogurt Brand Offering Superhero Mobiles to Benefit MDA

ENCINO, Calif. - August 6, 2013 - (BUSINESS WIRE) - Menchie’s Frozen Yogurt has teamed up with The Muscular Dystrophy Association in their second annual partnership to raise funds for children and adults affected by neuromuscular disease.

Beginning Aug. 12 through Sept. 3, guests at participating Menchie’s locations can purchase a $1 mobile to raise money for families served by MDA. This year’s campaign centers on a superhero theme, urging guests to “suit up and use their power to make a difference.” Every guest to donate will receive a superhero mobile and a sticker that says, “Pow! I made a difference.” Included on each mobile is a special coupon for 15 percent off guests’ next visit to Menchie’s as a thank you for donating.

“By doing something so small, anyone can make a difference in someone’s life and be their superhero,” said Judy Balas, vice president of community outreach at Menchie’s Group, Inc. “We are continuously amazed by the generosity of our guests, franchisees and team members,” added Balas. “Menchie’s mission is to make people smile and through this partnership with MDA, we are doing just that.”

Additionally, the team members at Menchie’s Global Headquarters visited an MDA summer camp in Southern California to help “spread smiles”. Each camp offers a wide range of activities specially designed for children who have limited mobility or use wheelchairs. The Menchie’s team played games with campers, provided specially made Menchie’s superhero capes, and of course, served frozen yogurt.

“Menchie’s mobile program helps raise funds in a powerful and meaningful way to support children and adults affected by neuromuscular disease," said MDA President and CEO Steven M. Derks. "It's no secret that Menchie's franchisees, team members and loyal guests are committed to 'spreading smiles' in their communities, and we know that we can count on them again this August to 'suit up' and use their super power to help our families fight back against muscle disease."
