Big Slice of Canadian population to Watch Super Bowl at Home… with a Slice

January 28, 2015 // Franchising.com // TORONTO, ON - With 43 per cent of Canadians planning to watch the Super Bowl this year, Pizza Pizza, Canada's leading pizza chain, is gearing up to tackle one of the busiest days of the year. To find out how Canadians plan to observe this year's big event, the popular pizza chain has conducted a survey that has revealed the eating habits of Canadians during the game.

The Canada-wide survey reported that the majority of Canadians will be watching the game from home (70 per cent) or at a friend's house this year (16 per cent), with two out of five of those people planning to order takeout. According to the survey, pizza is the most popular delivery choice for Canadians this year (45 per cent), followed by chicken wings (18 per cent) and nachos (4 per cent). To handle the increased volume of calls the company is expecting, Pizza Pizza plans to double the number of order takers on Super Bowl Sunday.

"Every year, we experience a very large rush of calls right before kick-off for the big game," said Pat Finelli, Chief Marketing Officer for Pizza Pizza. "Our customers order from Pizza Pizza knowing that they can expect their order in 40 minutes or less, so we have taken several measures to make sure that their meal arrives hot, fresh and on-time despite the busy day."

During last year's Super Bowl Sunday, Pizza Pizza locations across Canada took almost 70,000 orders, processing approximately 134 orders per minute through its call centre during peak times. The pizza chain sold just under 200,000 wings and over 67,000 pizzas on Super Bowl Sunday, with pepperoni being the most popular topping.

Just in time for the big game, Pizza Pizza has launched new "Mini Buckets" of jalapeno poppers, Italian meatballs and sauced chicken bites, as well as deep fried pickles. "These items are perfect for sharing, especially for big groups," Finelli explained.

To help customers navigate the Super Bowl Sunday rush, Pizza Pizza suggests placing an order in advance of the big day, using its website (www.PizzaPizza.ca) or mobile app. Orders can be placed up to 3 weeks in advance on these platforms.
