Army Veteran-led Group Signs Deal for Second Massachusetts Aroma Joe’s Location

Maine-based coffee franchise slated to open its fifth location in the Bay State.

February 18, 2020 // Franchising.com // PORTLAND, Maine - Aroma Joe’s, one of the nation’s leading handcrafted beverage chains, is bringing its farm-to-sip quality coffee and specialty beverages to Tewksbury. This location is part of a larger expansion plan for the brand in New England and throughout the East Coast.

Lowell residents Kevin Ahern, Johnny Ahern and Brad Pacheco are opening their second Aroma Joe’s coffee shop location. The trio also owns the Leominster Aroma Joe’s location which was opened in October of 2017.

The trio were introduced to the brand during their travels to New Hampshire and Maine, where they frequented other locations. They fell in love with the Aroma Joe’s brand, mission and the overall experience Aroma Joe’s offered.

“We didn’t really set out to get involved with franchising, we just really liked the business model and company philosophy that Aroma Joe’s has in place. The product is like nothing else on the marketplace and after meeting with the corporate team, we decided this was a great business opportunity,” said Kevin. “We were excited for the chance to introduce the brand to a new market in Massachusetts.”

Johnny spent 11 years in the United States Army where he completed two combat tours to Kuwait and Iraq before finishing his enlistment as a Staff Sergeant. Upon leaving the military, he moved to Massachusetts to help open the trio’s first Aroma Joe’s location. He now serves as the managing partner who handles the day-to-day store operations. Kevin owns a logistics company that specializes in helping companies drive strategic growth, maximize system-wide asset values, and increase profitability for companies in a variety of industries. Brad owns a law practice in Lowell, where his firm specializes in personal injury, real estate, and criminal defense law. Kevin, Johnny, and Brad combine their business knowledge to help best serve the customers at their Leominster store and they plan to do the same with their Tewksbury location.

Founded in 2000 and franchising since 2013, Aroma Joe’s prides itself on having created a new standard within the coffee & espresso, beverage infusions and energy drink industries. The chain’s proprietary coffee blends are craft-roasted in Maine and are Rainforest Alliance Certified, which means they are sustainably grown and ethically sourced. The menu includes handcrafted espresso-based drinks such as various lattes and mochas which can be customized with limitless flavor combinations.

The cost to open a 650-1,200 square-foot Aroma Joe’s franchise, including the franchise fee and overall investment cost, is between $256,500 and $702,000.
