Synergy HomeCare of Peoria Celebrates One Year of New Ownership

For the past five years, the company has been a trusted provider of local in-home care for residents of Peoria, Tazewell, Woodford, and Stark counties in Illinois. As of last July, the company has done so under the new management of husband and wife duo, Shad and Melissa Sleeth.

Shad formerly owned and operated a staffing company in Denver for over a decade.The COVID-19 pandemic allowed him to redirect his focus toward home care, an industry that provided him with a greater sense of self-fulfillment. Similarly, Melissa sought to build upon her extensive career in real estate and recruiting after learning about a SYNERGY HomeCare franchise that had become available in Shad’s hometown.

Headquartered at 7324 N. University St., in Peoria, IL, the business is only a short drive from where Shad grew up. Prior to becoming home care agency owners, both Shad and Melissa already had some personal experience with the industry. Growing up, Melissa’s mother was a professional caregiver, which had ingrained the value of selfless service into her children. Eventually, Melissa’s father developed Alzheimer’s, which further taught Melissa about the complexities of providing care to a loved one living with dementia.

Shad had come into contact with caregiving services following his father’s diagnosis of ALS. In order to assist his mother in her caregiving duties, the family brought in caregiver support to alleviate the stress. Shad and his mother quickly realized that the caregivers were not trained nor properly equipped to handle their needs. These services ended up taking an even greater toll on Shad’s mother’s health, and similar to Melissa’s experience, this taught him the critical importance of finding and providing exceptional home care.
