School of Rock Rochester is Ready to Rock N’ Roll

October 19, 2023 // Franchising.com // ROCHESTER, NEW YORK - School of Rock will be celebrating the opening of its school in Rochester, N.Y., with an event taking place at 235 High Street Extension, Suite 4, Victor, N.Y. on Saturday, Oct. 21, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Along with a ceremonial guitar smashing (School of Rock’s version of a ribbon-cutting), the event will offer live student and staff performances, special promotions and tours of the school.

School of Rock Rochester is owned by David Curry and John Kunes, both lifelong musicians whose paths initially crossed during their time in the Victor High School choir. David, influenced by his Beatles-loving mother, grew up swaying to the tunes of The Dave Clark Five, The Stones, and ABBA. He began his musical journey at the age of five on the piano, thanks to his organist father. It was John who introduced David to the world of guitar.

John's father's eclectic record collection, which included well-known bands like The Beach Boys, The Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin and others, sparked his love of music. By 13, he was inseparable from his first electric guitar. His teaching journey began in 1993 at Rossi Music in Canandaigua, New York.

After his daughter was born, David began pit-directing youth musicals and playing in pit bands. At the same time, John, who had a deep connection with School of Rock from taking his daughter to School of Rock shows in Chicago, joined forces with David in 2017. The two soon shared a vision of opening a School of Rock in Rochester.

"School of Rock's patented approach to music education has been tested and perfected for over 25 years by hundreds of thousands of students. Our method is delivered by an incredible team of expert instructors who are also professional gigging musicians and the results are second to none," said David Curry. “We don't just teach music, we make musicians.”

School of Rock provides students of all ages an exciting and engaging music lesson experience, which includes bass lessons, guitar lessons, singing lessons, drum lessons and piano lessons. Drawing from all styles of rock and roll, School of Rock students learn theory and techniques via songs from legendary artists such as Aretha Franklin, Lenny Kravitz and Led Zeppelin. Thanks to the school’s performance-based approach, students around the world have gained superior musical proficiency, with some moving on to record deals and larger platforms such as American Idol, The Voice and Broadway.

“There is a lot of heart and soul that goes into School of Rock,” said Rob Price, CEO of School of Rock. “David and John are people who embody this spirit. Their passion for music as gigging musicians informs and inspires their efforts. I look forward to watching their students thrive through music education and live performances.”
