The Big Biscuit® Announces Purchase of Independence and Blue Springs Restaurants From Gerson Family

January 02, 2024 // Franchising.com // The Big Biscuit® President Chad Offerdahl today announced that the Breakfast and Lunch concept has finalized the purchase of the Independence, Mo., and Blue Springs, Mo., restaurants that have been independently owned and operated by the Gerson family since 2000. Dan Gerson, founder of The Big Biscuit, passed away unexpectedly in September. An opening date for The Big Biscuit Independence and Blue Springs restaurants will be announced in the coming weeks.

The Big Biscuit, headquartered in Prairie Village, Kansas, has been working with the Gerson family since late September to reach a purchase agreement on the two original Big Biscuit restaurants the Gerson family closed suddenly in mid-November.

"My family and I made the difficult decision to close the Independence and Blue Springs locations after my father's passing,” said Luke Gerson. “Today’s sale of these two restaurants to The Big Biscuit will preserve my father’s legacy of success under the leadership and guidance of Chad and his team.”

“Like so many in Kansas City, we continue to mourn the untimely passing of our friend, Dan Gerson,” Offerdahl said. “We are eager to re-open these original Big Biscuit restaurants and serve the communities that have supported them for years. There will be minimal updates and improvements to the buildings and interiors. Our goal is to maintain the history of the brand.”

The current Big Biscuit menu will be served in both restaurants.

The Big Biscuit elevates the guest experience by emphasizing top-quality comfort food freshly prepared with a twist. Dishes are served in generous portions with genuine hometown hospitality in a welcoming, family-friendly, and inclusive atmosphere.
