A Place At Home Celebrates Black History Month Recognizing Husband and Wife Franchisees

February 16, 2024 // Franchising.com // LAFAYETTE, La. - As A Place At Home celebrates Black History Month, the franchise recognizes Larry and Charletta Thomas, the husband-and-wife duo behind A Place At Home - Lafayette.

Charletta and Larry Thomas have a clear mission for their A Place At Home location: to provide exceptional in-home care to seniors, drawing from their firsthand experiences and challenges in finding quality care for their loved ones. Larry, an Army veteran and the youngest of 17 siblings has a long history of caregiving within his own family. Charletta brings an extensive background in leadership and hospitality.

“Our journey with A Place At Home is deeply rooted in our desire to serve others, especially the seniors in our community,” said Larry Thomas. “We’re here to ensure that every family we assist can navigate the aging journey with the support and care they deserve.”

The Thomases opened A Place At Home - Lafayette in July 2023 to address the unique needs of the Acadiana region, including its many small and rural communities often overlooked by larger providers. Their strategy includes hiring quality caregivers who live close to their clients to provide top-notch care that’s accessible.

“Our goal is to build a team of caregivers who genuinely care about the well-being of our clients,” said Charletta Thomas. “The caregivers we look to hire aren’t just looking to receive a paycheck, but care for our clients as if they were their own family.”

A Place At Home - Lafayette offers a comprehensive suite of senior-focused care services, including in-home care, care coordination, senior living alternatives, and staffing solutions for senior communities. This approach allows the Thomases to support clients through all stages of the aging process, providing a seamless continuum of care.

For Black History Month, A Place At Home reflects on the contributions of African Americans to various sectors. Charletta and Larry Thomas represent leadership and service and are making a difference in their community.

“Charletta and Larry embody the spirit of service and community that A Place At Home stands for,” said Dustin Distefano, CEO and co-founder of A Place At Home. “Their dedication to enhancing the lives of seniors in and around Lafayette is inspiring, and we are proud to have them as part of our franchise family.”
