Colonel's Scholars Charity To Score Super-Bowl-Size Win If Nfl Teams "wing It" During Playoffs And Super Bowl Xliii

KFC - the "Official Wing Sponsor" of the NFL Playoffs and Super Bowl XLIII - to Make Six-figure Finger-Lickin' Good Charity Donation for Hail Mary Pass Completed During the NFL Postseason

January 06, 2009 // Franchising.com // Louisville, KY – In celebration of being the NFL's first "Official Wing Sponsor" of the NFL Playoffs and Super Bowl, KFC will make a six-figure charity donation if teams go deep into the playbook and successfully "wing" a Hail Mary pass this postseason.

If a team "wings it" and completes a Hail Mary pass on the final play of an upcoming NFL Divisional or Conference Championship Playoff game, KFC will donate $125,000 in the names of the quarterback/receiver combo who successfully "wing it" to The KFC Colonel's Scholars Program®, a charity providing deserving students with much needed college scholarships2.

The action doesn't stop there. If a team "wings it" and completes a Hail Mary pass on the final play of Super Bowl XLIII, KFC will donate an additional $125,000 in the names of that quarterback/receiver combo to The KFC Colonel's Scholars Program®. If no team completes the feat during the NFL Divisional or Conference Championship Playoff games, KFC will roll over the playoff "Wing It" Challenge and double the amount to $250,000 for a completed Hail Mary pass during Super Bowl XLIII.

"Just like the taste of KFC's Honey BBQ Wings, a postseason Hail Mary pass is something special that millions of football fans can enjoy during the games," said Javier Benito, executive vice president of marketing and food innovation for KFC. "As the Official Wing Sponsor of the NFL Playoffs and Super Bowl XLIII, we'll be enjoying the on-field action along with those millions of fans."

KFC is All Pro On and Off the Field

KFC's "Official Wing Sponsor" designation during the Playoffs and Super Bowl XLIII represents its first-ever sponsorship agreement with the National Football League. As part of the sponsorship, KFC is offering consumers who buy a 32 oz. NFL promotional drink cup the chance

to qualify to win one of several prizes, including a trip to Super Bowl XLIV in South Florida in 2010, flat-panel TVs and NFL.com gift certificates. KFC sells more chicken wings than any other restaurant and ranks as the only national chain offering wings via drive-thru. Last year, Americans ate three times as many wings from KFC on Super Bowl Sunday than on any other Sunday, totaling more than 600 million chicken wings consumed during the big game.

KFC's Honey BBQ Wings feature KFC's signature sauce made with honey and just the right amount of BBQ spices. The result is a sweet, yet tangy flavor that satisfies the most wing-crazy football fans. For a limited time, you can get seven Honey BBQ Wings for only $3.99 plus tax (at participating locations).

KFC's wings made big news recently by taking first place honors in the Traditional Barbecue Sauce category during KFC's first-ever appearance at the National Buffalo Wing Festival in Buffalo, N.Y. After more than 560,000 wings (27 tons) were served at the legendary wing festival, KFC's Honey BBQ sauce topped all other Traditional Barbecue Sauce entries.
