DALLAS // PRNewswire-FirstCall // -- Topping the BLOCKBUSTER® (NYSE: BBI, BBI.B) Hit List of "Top 10 Renting DVD Titles" for the week ending March 28 is "The Blind Side." In an agreement announced last week with Warner Bros., "The Blind Side" became available for rent or purchase from Blockbuster in stores, by mail or digitally a full 28 days before it was available from other competitors.
Likewise, just released today and for the next four weeks, "Sherlock Holmes" is available from Blockbuster for rent in stores, by mail or digitally. The agreement, which covers DVD and Blu-ray, gives Blockbuster customers the opportunity to rent hit movies the day they are released.
"This agreement reflects our strategy to be the leading multichannel provider for movies. We're excited to offer consumers the best home entertainment from Warner Bros. with significantly greater availability in BLOCKBUSTER® Stores, through BLOCKBUSTER® By Mail, as well as digitally through BLOCKBUSTER On Demand®," said James W. Keyes, chairman and chief executive officer, Blockbuster Inc.
"The Blind Side" is the sports-themed comedy drama inspired by author Michael Lewis' best-seller "The Blind Side: Evolution of a Game." Taken in by an affluent family and offered a second chance at life, a homeless teen grows to become a star athlete. For her performance, Sandra Bullock won the Academy Award for Best Actress. The film itself also received an Academy Award nomination for Best Picture.
"Sherlock Holmes," directed by Guy Ritchie, is an action mystery film based on the character of the same name created by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Robert Downey, Jr. and Jude Law portray Sherlock Holmes and Dr. John Watson, respectively. Holmes investigates a series of murders, apparently connected to occult rituals.
