For GolfTEC, Fiscal-Year 2012 Is Another Season

Of Growth, Success, and Hitting the Business Sweet Spot

September 13, 2012 // Franchising.com // Centennial, Colo. - … It’s been another great business year for GolfTEC, the world leader in golf improvement.

With its 2012 fiscal year recently closed, GolfTEC is posting positive numbers in sales, centers opened, lessons given, coaches hired, and international expansion.

For the third straight year, GolfTEC recorded same-sales store growth. And in new sales, 16 new centers have opened in the United States, while six centers have relocated to newer, more expansive facilities.

New and bigger centers are important as GolfTEC continues to lead the country in golf lessons, being single-handedly responsible for more than 25 percent of all private lessons given in the U.S. Since opening its first location in 1995, GolfTEC coaches have taught more than 3.6 million lessons and grown to more than 160 improvement centers in North America, helping golfers shoot lower scores and have more fun on the golf course.

Establishing new centers and moving existing centers into bigger and more efficient locations are key elements of GolfTEC’s strategic, multi-year growth program, announced earlier in 2012. Worldwide, a total of 20 new centers opened in the fiscal year 2012 and as many as four more international locations are scheduled to open before the end of the calendar year – including the first GolfTEC location in Korea.

“We continue to successfully execute our plan for significant growth,” said GolfTEC President and CEO Joe Assell. “We are committed to opening more centers so we can reach more people and help them enjoy the game of golf.”

As a result of this continuing growth, GolfTEC’s coaches stayed busier than ever in fiscal 2012. After setting a company record of nearly 535,000 lessons in 2011, GolfTEC estimates its coaches gave more than 578,000 lessons in 2012, a better than 8 percent increase.

Since the company’s fiscal year began last September, new GolfTEC improvement centers have opened in:

New centers also opened inside Golfsmith locations in:

Furthermore, six GolfTEC improvement centers relocated to new locations.

GolfTEC also recorded unprecedented new growth internationally. In Canada, there were three grand openings in the previous 12 months—in, Calgary, Toronto, and Vancouver. GolfTEC has also begun a major expansion in Asia, with a new center opened in Tokyo, Japan. It is the first of as many as 100 new centers planned for Japan and Korea during the next few years.

By staffing the new centers and meeting the sales growth in existing centers, GolfTEC hired more than 145 new coaches at a time when most of the golf industry is virtually flat, or in decline.

“GolfTEC is also proudly taking a lead role in Golf 2.0, the golf industry’s initiative to grow the game,” added Assell. “By making the game more fun for players, we’re retaining and engaging them in the game.”

Looking ahead to 2013, GolfTEC estimates that by some point next spring its coaches will have given nearly four million lessons. When that milestone is hit, Assell promises that the industry will hear about it.
